I know there's a thread on Cole's chances of a spot when he returns....this is more about his attitude.

Forget his salary, forget his ability just for a second......he really wants to succeed at Anfield, he wants to fight for his place.....this is an attitude that has become a rarity in modern footballers who seem to throw their toys out of the pram at any given opportunity, manipulating moves to their benefit. So whatever happens to Joe Cole from here, I wish him the very best.

    Or…
He just knows what to say to get the fans on side, while he picks up his huge salary each week!
I for one hope that is not the case, but it probably is <grr>

I just don't think he is good enough. No pace, poor fitness, not that much ability really. I would rather see his high wages directed elsewhere on Ramirez and co, or Shelvey featuring heavily,

lets be clear talk is indeed cheap... its actions that tell a story.

konchesky ran out as fast as his crap second rate elgs could carry him leaving us with no left back. that says volumes doesn't it. cole also ran off on loan to sip wine in france and play in a lesser league. that action has to speak volumes.

his debut v arsneal showed a guy full of eagerness and anxiety to succeed... no brains but hey... his actions last summer spoke volumes as if he'd stayed he would have got games by working hard.

haha....cynical lot. There is a marked difference in his behaviour when compared to Aqua's.....I think he's genuine....that said, he may not be good enough! <ok>

  7. I understand people saying talk is cheap since actions do speak louder than words, but I think Cole is genuine here. He made similar comments during last season whilst on loan.

The question mark I have is the reason behind this attitude. It isn't for the good of Liverpool Football Club, it is because Joe Cole does not want to have a failure on his CV. IMO, if we get the benefit of a on form Joe Cole from that then so be it <ok>

Yeah, I agree. I am more than happy to be proven wrong, but in my mind he is in a specific list of three players of recent times:
Downing, Voronin and Cole, anyone see the correlation?

I thought we offered Gylfi 50k?
No matter- all I care about is the club being successful, if Cole can make an important contribution to that end then that's enough for me. I'd be prepared to give him his chance with a new manager and system and let him talk with his feet.

If he was really serious he'd take a pay cut. 90k a week is for a player who is a first team regular and will feature in most games during the season. He should get payed on a par with the other players who are most likely to spend their time on the bench.

Yes, why not? 90k is alot of money for a player who wont play alot during the season, the club is looking to cut wages and high earners who have shown nothing so far should be first on the chopping board.
So if he was serious about wanting to be a success for Liverpool, he'd offer to drop his wages to a position which fitted a player of his current standing.

Frankly I'd be happy if Cole went, been a huge flop and didnt do much for Chelsea either. He's old, expensive and not good enough

Well he was offered 30 at swansea and Rodgers said that he wasn't prepared to change those terms under him at Liverpool. It's still the same manager signing the same player so why should he expect a pay rise - Makes sense I suppose? Spurs rumoured to have offered 55-60k

  15. So, if your boss came to you and asked you to take a pay cut because the company is looking to cut back on outgoing you would willing accept...? All footballers are well paid and the difference in pay for you and Cole are irrelevant.

Saying you think we should get rid is fair enough but suggesting he should take a pay cut to show his committment to the cause is a bit of a joke IMO...<ok>

In fact you have even less chance if he's not a starter. He has no way to advertise himself to another club & continue his career. So the money he makes here is a large chunk of what he will live on after he stops playing.

His argument would be he signed a deal, he wants to play every week it's not his decision not to be selected.

Not the players fault we had idiots handing out ludicrous contracts but then now we have people complaining because we aren't handing out some more....

Ideally (not going to happen) the wage structure should be a flat club player rate for every player with additional appearance & performance bonuses awarded annually. Say 40k a week with the equivalent of up to 80k a week paid at end of season if you played X% of games in a season. Add more if those appearances result in Wins.

I don't mind the idea of paying a player 100k+ a week if he plays & wins.

But sadly that's not the structure in place or ever will be.

  17. I don't think Joe Cole will re-find his form of his Chelsea days and therefore he won't be any more than a squad player for us. But, since no one is going to come along and offer the amount of money he is on and he seems determined to prove his self at Liverpool, let him stay and fight for a place rather than ship him off somewhere where we will have to pay a part, if not all, of his wages with no benefit.

Get rid, 90k is too much. Can anyone here honestly see him in their ideal starting 11 next year ? In that case 90k is a ridiculous amount for a bit part player.

Not really sure what you are trying to say here. Since 2008 many people in both the Public and Private sectors have had to do just that - take a pay cut to keep their jobs (sometimes in vain).

Getting rid is the only option if you wanted rid of his high wage. Cole is perfectly in his right to stay and take that amoun every weekt, we can't really aim the blame at him for the amount of money he is on as it was Liverpool football club who offered him the contract in the first place. Albeit under former idiots.

In relation to the OP, he said similar things last summer on our Asian tour. Talking about the coming season and how he wants to prove himself etc, it's what is expected...what being a Liverpool player and all.
