AKCJ - whilst there have been rumours about who raised the £500k that kept us in existence I've never seen anything that substantiates that Gary donated anything personally - yes he was the figurehead behind the consortium and, I understand, gave his services for free (and for that I am sincerely grateful) ... the only 'personal donation' to the fighting fund that I have seen publicly recognised and reported was a six figure sum from Emile Heskey (not that he wanted it reported I believe) .. so unless anyone knows different, just think we need to be careful in terms of what we claim otherwise it undermines our credibility and makes it look like blind loyalty because we can't take anyone having a pop at one of ours.... Now I'm a huge Gary lineker fan as a player - I played against him at school and was in the year above him playing for Aylestone Park in tha Sunday leagues - also played against his brother. None of that makes me qualified to comment about his 'character'. I know my missus really liked him because he appeared to me more of a 'family man' than other footballers - so she was really disappointed when he left his wife etc - but that happens. Now a bloke I used to work with had a best mate working at the FA, 2002 - 2005 - he would try winding me up with tales about how our Gary was a 'dawg' and was actuallu having far more success with the ladies at the FA than Sven .. this was around the time that the Fariah Allam (or whatever she was called) story broke - now I would give him the 'yeah yeah blah blah' response at the time but subsequent events make you wonder if Danielle Bux (gorgeous as she is) was his first 'sojourn' away from the marital bed - I don't know and frankly don't care - the point is that he has been the subject of some less than glowing speculation on the character front from fans of other clubs - None of this is relevant to Gary as a footballer - in footballing terms he is both a Leicester City and England legend - but we can't really get upset about fans of other teams (or indeed our own) having a pop at his character - because unless we really know him personally, their views are just as invalid as ours.
I would be surprised if he fronted the consortium without actually providing something. For what it's worth, he comes across well in the media and was arguably our greatest player and one of the best England have had. Also, I always took those Walkers ads to be self-deprecating?
The man is a legend both for LC & for England & has a world class games to goal ratio. Enough said, Mods lock the thread.
Both Lineker and Heskey donated 150k out of their own pockets. Was reported at the time, so please dont ask for a source. The original rumour at that time was more than that, and the 150k each was clarification about the rumour.
Cheers Barwell - I recall Heskey - saw or read of some interviewer trying to press him for details but in his normal unassuming way he just reiterated how much he owed LCFC for where he had got to etc etc ...
I am a Leicester fan and love Leicester City. I have met him, didn't like him in the slightest and was gutted. He is not a nice guy and is not the Mr Nice Guy that he seems. My point of view, take it or leave it!
So he's donated all the money he's made from making a prick of himself selling crisps He must love you guys, embarrassing himself on national tv like that.
Well **** me, I agree with OneLeeds on something. The jug eared **** needs to take a long hard look at himself and he needs to do it quickly. He's making a proper tool of himself with all these cheap and cheesy adverts and if he's not careful he will end being remembered as such. Get some self re-cocking-spect Gary and stop making yourself look a money grabbing tit. That's my advice and it's probably the best bit he'll get all year.
How many players have got one of these? please log in to view this image He never received a yellow or red card in his whole career, and put alot of his own money to save his football club He sounds a right arsehole
I'm not sure how many Hull City legends you know, but I know a few and they certainly care about the club, two of them still work for the club(I know six players who still work for the club, but only a couple qualify as legends) PS - I'll never post under another name, I'm happy to be judged on anything I post as me, even if it's complete bollocks.
so Nick Barmby, Dean Windass, Chris Chilton, Ken Wagstaff aren't actually from Hull and Hull City weren't the teams they supported as a boy
You might not know Chillo or Waggy, I wouldn't expect you too, but they were seriously good players, I'm fortunate to be old enough to have watched them play. There's some clips on YouTube, Waggy looks nothing like an athlete(he was frequently fined for smoking at half time and occasionally played drunk), but he was an incredible goal scorer.
