Never mind all that - I'm still humming along to this, damn it!
Our best signing was last summer in Tony Fernandes who has just announced we are to get a new stadium. He was talking about 40-45k before but it will be at least over 30k.
Are you sure this announcement is not just a proposed design for a new ground? I kind of get the feeling this is what is about to happen, a design which will of course need to be followed by finding and buying/leasing a place to build it. I could be wrong and perhaps some land has been acquired but I thought the club was still searching for a suitable location (just 2 or 3 days ago I heard that)
"Excellent stadium meeting. Wow. Looks great. Going to make big announcement. Stadium will be in west london. Will not lose overall atmosphere. Lots to do and many pitfalls but great first step." Looks to me like the ground is designed and the announcement will be that the land has been acquired which in west london is the biggest obstacle.
Whilst that is good news for you guys I would be tempted to not get too carried away. You have said in yourself - Lots to do and many pitfalls but great first step. My only real question would the land and the point I raised earlier. Just a few days ago, I believe, QPR were looking at three options. To me that would suggest that the acquisition of land is nowhere near complete. It's possible of course that money has been agreed and so on but that would still leave a lot of work to do with solicitors and god knows who else.
i very much doubt they would have spent millions (cos thats what it costs - ask liverpool) on stadium plans before they've acquired a site to be honest. you've jumped the gun massively. likewise, qpr's capacity should not be more than 32k or it would end up being a white elephant for the club. maybe having the option to add another tier on top of the stands would be beneficial but to go straight to a 45k seater or whatever is plain crazy - you simply don't have enough fans to fill any more than that. we sell out our ground of 27k every week, even in league one, but none of us are crazy enough to think we should suddenly up it to 45k! its important to know your clubs limitations and it sounds to me like your owner doesn't. good luck though - you need a new ground and bigger capacity to compete. hope it goes well for you
Superman I dont think the money will be a problem as the Mittels one of our share holders are one of the wealthiest in the world around about 20 billion or so.
no no, you misunderstand me! i'm not saying you don't have money behind you (not that its your clubs money - just cos a family is rich does not mean its the clubs money - its their money. anyone who thinks qpr are cash rich is kidding themselves). i'm saying don't get carried away - this will be some time in the future, not tomorrow. plans will not have been drawn up yet, it will still be in its infancy. and my main point was that the idea of a massive capacity for a club like qpr is laughable. it would be a total waste of time, money and plastic seating. just cos your backers have wealth does not mean they will happily blow millions on plans for something that might not happen. how do you think they got rich in the first place?!
The stadium wont be a white elephant, its london and people will come even if the prices have to be reduced to make them cheaper than the other PL clubs. Even a club like Saints are thinking about expanding their 33k ground so that wouldnt be big enough for us if we are aiming at euro football. Wed fill 30k now if we had the capacity, 40-45k is not unreasonable for the future plans.
We're building it that big as it's going to be multiple purpose with concerts and other events being held there. So in the end it will pay for itself. This is why we brought in Phil beard as CEO, he's the man that made the o2 the success that it is.
We have heard this sort of propaganda from many owners of many different clubs down the years. We will see how it ends.
I've heard it will be 35k and maybe with a retractable roof! Sensible by the sounds of it. I have to say, things are looking a lot better for qpr this summet than last. Park ji-sung is a bargain at 2mil
