I admit that I know **** all about the technical side of football training but then I'm not a football coach. But what I do know is the human body and I can tell ALOT from a persons physique. Also previoulsy posted a LOAD of Opta stats that showed we conceded the least when Vermaelen was on the pitch. Certain members on here then argued stats dont 'tell the whole story'. So I've stopped bothering to post them. The thing is players get hyped up beyond all reasoning (often due to only a few good performances). I like Koscielney as a player, he works hard, has good technique but i think he lacks the key physical and mental attributes that make a TOP centreback.
If you had been following the argument you would see that TheBear has been saying that Kos is a poor defender and used very generalized stats, I brought stats from Arsenals website to show that he is wrong. Perhaps you could make a real contribution instead of the rubbish you have posted here.
Next season our defense will have no excuses anymore. All 3 of our first choice CBs would have enough experience to be judged on a whole season. If they concede another 40 odd goals, then sorry, they are rubbish. Only one defender truly stands out for me and that is Sagna. I have seen the rest make mistakes or get roasted this season. Sagna came back from a broken leg and was still one of our best defenders. He'll come back after his second broken leg and still be as good as the rest! Hand on, do i sound like the biggest Sagna fan
That's fair enough and you are entitled to your opinion , As I said I believe that the Vermaelen and Kos partnership is the best we have. There is a thin line between building muscle and bulking up and also keeping your agility and speed. I also think Kos can at times be out muscled by players but so can the rest of our defenders. We play a very high line meaning that we need quick players to stop our oppositions counterattacks and I think that's why Kos is vital for us.
Yeah...didn't you also call Sagna handsome in one of the other threads?...I think you have a man-crush on Sagna
All I can say is the man has a very pretty wife, my man-crush was on RVP until the recent news "He leaves when he wants,he leaves when he wants, Robin Van Persie, he leaves when he wants"
You're an utter moron then. Koscielny is one of the best defenders, technically, I've ever seen. I don't agree he's the best yet, but boy does he have the potential.
Well he may be good 'technically' but defending is about alot more than technique. Usaine Bolt is 'technically' inferior to some of his peers - yet he remains the fastest. Natural strength, aggression, determination, size/musculature, metabolic rate, leadership skills, cardiovascular endurance, will power and intellegence are all of equal importance.. 'Technique' is just one factor.(particularly when talking about centrebacks) He lacks some of these things - this is why it took him sooo long to break into top flight football. Sagna on the otherhand is 'World Class'.
Most of these things can be worked on and that is why most people can see the vast rate of improvement in Koscielny. He is an intelligent, technical defender who is physically fit and extremely fast. He sometimes has positional lapses but his only true problems are leadership and strength, both of which can easily be worked on.
This is one of the stupidest posts I've ever read. Seriously, I think I have just contracted cancer, because of this post. You clearly pay no attention to the wider picture and the finer details.
This coming from the guy who claims Koscielney to be the best defender in the league?! We concede 49 goals last season - Take your head out of your arse.
TheBear's post is not stupid, and I really object to people calling posts that have obviously been thought about and taken time to compose as "Stupid". At least TheBear took the time to make a positive post instead of just being negative. The only thing I would say about the post is that for me there are a lot of aspects to playing centre back and a CB does not have to excel at all of them. The 2 CBs as a pair do have to excel at all of them. So while Per may lack pace (no, let's be honest, he does) then as long as he is paired with a fast CB, who can chase down breaks, then he is fine. Partner him with another slow CB and it will be a disaster. Judging CB's individually can be very difficult as a good CB will make his partner look good and the reverse also. Sometimes, that CB will make his partner look so good, it will be dificult to tell who is better. So I do think the "team" aspect of defending is very important. I know theBear will say that he took teamwork into account with positioning etc., but I think it goes beyond that. Finally Kos has been asked to man-mark centre-forwards a fair amount, and he has been the only one doing that. So, trying to compare him to any of the other CBs, doing completely different jobs, is a bit tricky. I don't think Vermaelen is very good at the man-marking role. So my own view, is that when we are playing against a team that has a CF that deserves man marking, Kos and Vermaelen are the best pairing we have, and if we lost one of them, the loss of Kos would be greater.
