that is true..he is not a goal getter...who is in centre mid these days that we could get..as scoring goals was always a criticism with Modric.
I like Luka too. don't get me wrong, he's very good. but he's overhyped by the media imo. he will be missed, but all i'm saying it that sort of money will get a replacement. it's not our job to know who is the replacement is, that's up to the experts. but i'm sure there'll be about 5-6 players out there, who will be like luka modric was 4 years ago, right now.
we need to take a punt at some of these players that people like you have spoken of Dona. Banega, is it? perhaps Moutinho? etc etc we were once in the same position with Modric, so we just need to go for it again.
Ever Banega is the man..watch this..im going to change my underpants in the meantime.. and none of this youtube can make anyone look good..cos his skills are still his own doing.
That Banega looks like Maradona and Beckham combined! Mind you, some of the defending in those YouTube clips was absolutely shocking.
I know you are trying to get yourselves into a mindset to be ok if Modric goes, but I agree with S or S he would be a big loss. A lot of his work goes unnoticed but if he is not there ball retention and openings would be that much harder. That's why SAF would want him, he badly need a replacement for Scholes, not that he can afford him. If he goes of course we will adapt and maybe find another replacement but these kind of players do not grow on trees.
This Lets not kid ourselves, we'd be losing our best creative player and one of the best players I've seen in a Spurs shirt.
I'm with SoS and Spurf on this one. Modric leaving will be a big blow. He was the engine for the past 4 years in the centre of our midfield. The 88% completed passes aren't easily replaced. He made us tick, yes there are other players that can do this job but I can't think of any that are better at it than Luka right now. And if there are players like this out there they will cost in excess of 20million and wilhave wage demands that make our eyes water. If we could keep Luka for one more season it would be great. If not, we need to essentially rebuild our approach, which with a new manager in place, I guess is as good as time as any.
i don't think anyone's denying that it's going to be a blow to us. But at the same time, when have we ever got 35-40 mill for a player and been able to use that money to restrengthen? (as well as having more to spend in addition to what we get!) I know money can't necessarily buy everything, and wages of new players have to be considered, but there's got to be other young talent out there that can replace Modric??
I would be weary of assuming that the entire proceeds of Modrics sale will go straight back into the transfer kitty. The new stadium isn't going to pay for itself.
perhaps not all of it. But our activity in the window so far, is very out of character. we never sign players this early. we are showing signs of a club that is going to spend. There have also been rumours that the naming rights of the stadium have been sold (for £100m). Just putting 2 and 2 together ASC No one really knows the answers, but the signs are definitely there and I think the club know that if their selling modric, it's going to cost us to replace him. it'll all unfold soon.
We're showing ambition Roo, which is good . We aren't resting on our laurels which Levy ought to take credit for. I think he's done wonders for us. Secured new stadium plans, vital in generating revenue if we are to compete against the big boys, in the long run. Got rid of Harry at the right time IMO, and brought in a hungry, forward thinking manager. Etc etc
Pogba, Fryers, Park...remind me, which is the team that's supposed to be seeing an exodus of players this summer?
Spurf, YV, and Allstar, I'm not devaluing Modrics contribution in any way, the way he frees himself in tight spaces and his sliderule passes would be sorely missed, agreed. As an example I look at it this way, you could say he's our Pirlo, but, Mr. Pirlo has goals AND consistant top class set piece delivery earning him assists. Xavi is simlar there aswell, top class ball keeping and passing, but useless in the air, and not enough goals, but his partnership with Iniesta is the best in football. If we could find the right MFer to go with Mod that would be the key. Luka is brilliant at what he does, but is far from a complete Mfer, which imo you need in your team somewhere these days.
Modric is our best player in my opinion, to lose him is going to be a massive blow. Look how Liverpool suffered in selling Xabi Alonso, he didn't score that many goals either but is very similar to Modric. Plus if Modric isn't very good why would experts in football rate him so highly?
