We said that four months ago. Now we're on course for the wettest summer in history.

Rainy 'season' is here too, apparently. Not long and the hurricanes that hit the coast should bring some up to Queretaro, otherwise the reservoirs mighht run dry.

It stopped raining here briefly. We had fog instead and a 4.8 shake that was centred in Rolleston, which is about 10km from where I work. A 4.8 that close is one that makes you seriously think about getting under the desk. Everyone phones home afterwards too.

Still, it gives us something to talk about other than the weather.

WOW that is big enough to raise a few eyebrows. I have one of 6.8 in Tokyo once, it scared the life out of me.

Bloody 'eck NZ, that sounds scary...serious sun out now, pavements are drying up. Must be time to go out and sample a few ciders methinks - Thatchers Gold (no jokes please...) will be on the menu..

We should be used to this by now - rains during Wimbledon and when the main league sport is traditionally cricket and then at the start of the footy seaon, the sun usually comes out.

When I lived in the UK I was only eight miles from Silverstone. Today I saw some pictures from there as the cars were attempting to practice.

Quite glad that I didn"t suffer the downpour that descended on the area. <yikes>

Has Arizona seceded from the Union then?

Would you not get a little tired of "permanent heat" and very little rain?

The Saharan countries would probably trade a little of their permanent heat for some of our rain?

I know that this Summer has been particularly awful but we have not had rain all year round - in fact we had very little rain for a couple of years before April - my garden testified to this. I actually like our climate (sorry 365 days of weather) - it's what makes our countryside some of the most attractive in the world. I would not trade our green fields, woods or gardens for "permanent heat". Of course I like a bit of heat now and then but all the time......no thanks!

    Sorry.

that's okay. We're all allowed to be different. And you're right, i'd probably get fed up with the heat, so maybe somewhere like Spain, where the summer is guaranteed, but it's cooler in the winter, but not too wet. Hmm,....

    I can dream lol

There are many parts of Spain where I'm sure you would not like the weather. The last time I was in Madrid was on a January day and it was snowing heavily. The bit of Spain the Spaniards call Green Spain (Galicia in the far NW of the country) is far wetter than SE England. The summers in Estramadura are every bit as brutal as in the Sahara.

You probably mean the Costa del Sol........but it's full of ex-pat Crims!

I think I'd emigrate to Madeira in the Atlantic - just hot enough all year round to be comfortable and just rainy enough to have some of the great plants/gardens of the world. But it ain't going to happen - Mrs Rij likes England too much......

My brother has lived in Soth Australia since 1976. If you ask him what he really misses, apart from Englsih beer, it's a murky, grey, drizzly November day...they just never see them...

I don't think I would go so far as to say I would miss such a day, but I would certainly miss a brisk walk in the countryside on a bright, cold and crisp Winter's day followed by a Builder's mug of tea and toast and jam or some Mulligatawny soup back in the warm in front of the fire.

Or a thud & blunder game down at the Vic in the pouring rain.......
