I wish people would stop talking on my behalf and saying 'in Warnock we trust'. Selling a very good player like Clayton, whilst at the same time bringing in journeymen like Green doesn't bode well.

Nope, sorry, this is going towards Paddy Kenny. You might get the money from Lonners' move to Bolton.

    Simon
their bid was turned down cant see you signing Kenny until Lonners has gone,,,,,,If kenny was joining surely youd have accepted their bid,,,,If Bolton pull the plug and look elsewhere do you think youll still sign Kenny ?

Warnock needs instant success because of his short contract with LUFC therefore he hasn't got time to wait for Clayton to get better. Green dominated us at Derby and is a better option for instant promotion even though I like Clayton I can understand why Warnock sold him.

Morning YW. I think Clayton was sold for 2 reasons; a. Warnock reckons he isn't worth the money he wants, & b. That Warnock has or will get CMs who can dominate games & help us win promotion this coming season. Clayton didn't dominate enough games this season to justify any hefty salary increase he may have been after. He's also a work in progress who will develop over the years.

Pity really, but let's hope he doesn't come back to bite us when 'Udders come calling.

I may be wrong here but was Lonergan on Warnock's list of players that were told to find other clubs ? Clayton was put on the transfer list, but I thought Lonergan was being retained hence we have sold Clayton but derisory bids bids for other players are being turned down.

Kenny's already been at Thorp Arch. I would assume the initial Bolton bid was turned down because they weren't offering enough, possibly because they knew Kenny was already on his way in.

Don't think Lonners was anything other than part of Warnock's plans. Its only press speculation following the arrival at QPR of Rob Green that is linking Kenny to us. Maybe he will come & Lonners will leave, or maybe he won't & Lonners will stay. Only time will tell.

Interesting that derisory bids are being turned down. Sounds as though we're not in that much of a rush to move play on. Will be interesting to see who travels to the first few warm up matches & who artold to main at TA for training (those with long term injuries aside).

I accept that Clayton is not the finished article and I also accept Warnock wishes to do it next season and hasn't the time to wait for Clayton to develop however if money is not going to be a major issue why not keep him as back-up and work in progress. Look at it another way, Clayton or Pugh? Why keep Pugh, he is not going to get any better and he certainly is never going to be Premiership quality.

Fair points all round Ristac. I think the reason Pugh was kept on is that he has a contract & Clayton wasn't about to re-sign unless he got an increase in wages; that & Pugh is a bit more versatile than Clayton in that he can ply LB, LM, CM. Clayton is only a CM.

Makes you wonder what Grayson was thinking when he signed Pugh for £500k

Easy Ristac. Pugh is a reasonable player who can fulfill a number of roles; 21 century equivalent of Paul Madeley, albeit not quite as good.

Kenny has already as much as admitted to having been at Thorp Arch. It's a done deal, I'll be pretty surprised if he's not the next signing announced.

Boggers you do make absolutely **** players sound good :)

Pugh is ****ing awful tries hard don't get me wrong but hes ****.

But nobody would pay anywhere near what we did for him so got no choice but to keep him (and pretend hes wanted)

I know YW, it's a skill I posess. Accentuate the positives. Maybe he'll prove you wrong this season & shine under different management.... & then again maybe not. Time will tell.

Saints fan come across having read about Clayton. When we were sharing some banter on the forum around our two games against you guys last season, I said that I thought Clayton was one of your better players in those games. He can be a right nasty little bugger when needed, can play a bit too and never gives up. I am amazed to see him let go to Huddersfield.

Have I got something wrong, or has he been a naughty boy?

    Good luck this season.

Warnock wanted to keep him but as a squad player, He wanted 15k per week and we offered him about 8k

He was our most improved player last season however struggles with playing 2 games in a week, fitness was a big problem he has a lot of improving to do and Warnock doesn't have the patience or contract to wait for that so he got rid to replace him with an older experienced better Midfielder.

Fair do's. Thanks for that. Funny how you don't see everything when it's not your club. Sounds like he needs to get his head down a bit then.

    All the best
