Great seeing highlights, but you can't really appreciate LeGod unless you saw him week after week. It was an honour to watch him in his pomp.

Thats the thing that the 'pundits' tend to forget. That he played midfield and for a basically poor side. When the very first fantasy football appeared he was the top points scorer for the first 3 years.
I like the thing Joe Royle says in the ESPN video about him. On his non-inclusion in various England sides, Royle said... do you think Argentina care what Messi does when he doesn't have the ball..? Which kind of sums up the English attitude, in that they wanted every player to be a hod carrier first and if he had a bit of skill, then that was a bonus. You don't win anything without someone who can turn a game, and LeGod was a master of the art.
I seem to remember his son, Mitchell I think was signed as a junior. Is he still at the club, if so, is he projected to be like his old man?

The first part I agree with obviously but, sorry I don't think Gazza came even close to him. It makes me laugh that the goal he scored against Scotland was rated the best goal ever at Wembley and yet it was a poor-man's version of Tiss' goal against Newcastle which even Tiss doesn't rate as his best, in fact he almost dismisses it as a slight miss hit. Show me a video of Gazza's great goals. It wouldn't last too long.
Rickie does I agree but he is predominantly a striker whereas Adam can grow into being our main midfield ace IMHO.
No way fella. Gazza oozed ability. To mark him down for being a knob or anything else, would be the same as marking Le Tiss down for not tackling or running. Gazza was an amazing talent adn the only Englishman in my opinion of that generation fit to be in the same dressing room as Le Tiss. They were different types of players, but equally talented.
I wasn't at that game, but I was sat watching soccer saturday in my lounge, in Wigan. As soon as Jeff Stelling said "There's a goal at The Dell, has it been a fairy tale ending ..." the tears started to swell in the corner of my eye. The perfect ending to that wonderful little ground and that magnificent footballer.
I love the way that football is such a game of opinions. I've always thought Gazza to be the most over-rated player of his generation. Maybe, you are correct in that his off the field antics rather colours my view. I suspect more people would agree with you than me but there it is. Gazza himself thinks he was the best player of his generation.
Oh absolutely Lff, it is about opinions. If you need convincing on Gazza's ability, try and watch a DVD or video called "Gascoigne's Glory". It is Gazza at the 1990 World Cup. Strip out all the bollox of him messing about and playing tennis against a tourist 2 days before the semi-final and see the game against Holland. He was a genius. I'll happily take Le Tiss as the most talented of his generation, I just think Gazza was there with him. The sad thing is that if it hadn't been for the ego of an England Manager turned down by Le Tissier at his club then England could have the two of them in the same side ... OMG, that would have been awesome.
