In an interview with Eredivisie Live, Twente CEO Munsterman was asked if he was asking 15 million euro's for De Jong. He replied: "15 million? More like 20 million euro's."

Munsterman argumented that last summer Twente saw the departure of Ruiz to Fulham, 7 million pounds according to transfermarkt, but they had an argeement with the player about a possible transfer and thus they couldn't keep him from going. "We don't have such an agreement with De Jong, and i am confident we keep him here in at Twente." De Jong's contract ends in July 2014.

When asked which clubs are still in negotiating talks for De Jong the CEO said the following: "Currently there is only one club that is is still trying to get De Jong: Borussia Mönchengladbach. When silly money is offered then we have our obligations to the club and the player, that's why we always go into talks with clubs when that is the case, like now with Gladbach."

Looks like it's done, no De Jong as St. James Park.

They're probably hoping we'll enter a bidding war with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Welcome to him at that sort of pricetag. Top young player but lets stick to our policies that have served us so well, and move onto to other more realistically priced targets.

Let's wait and see what they think of our offer at about 10:00 pm 31 August - - it's one thing to write out a price tag. It's another to get someone to pay or to risk your product going out of fashion

    Good points!

I think De Jong will go onto command a higher price tag in the future, but Ashley is a top businessman and a big gambler - if you think of our expenditure as a betting stake and his future price tag as the winnings (especially when you consider the fact he may not be in our strongest 11 for a couple of years) then its a pretty big gamble with potentially very poor returns!

I would like to make it clear that although I am a Munster man, I am in now way related to the FC Twente Chairman.

Could well be with that sort of ridiculous over pricing. They just have to get the best they can for him which is understandable. We'd do well to not get involved in the games and be patient.

The same Borussia Mönchengladbach that are also in for John Guidiette another striker we are trying to sign from Citeh!!!

Seems like Borussia Mönchengladbach are the team being used to bump players prices up this transfer window!!!

I hope that ,when we put in our final offers we are saying.... 'this is timebound and will be withdrawn 7 days from date of issue'... helps focus the minds of people when they try taking the piss.... trust me.

Twente were bound to do this. Put his price-tag just out of reach at first, just to eek a few million out of the deal.

I would say we have a good chance of landing him if we maintain our interest and go back with a reduced offer this time next season. Still, plently of strikers out there we could look at, and we do have two Ameobis...

apparently De Jong has just come out and said he wants to join Gladbach. Also they are supposedly willing to pay the €20m asking price. Mugs! Glad we have stuck to our guns. Only goes to strengthen any future transfers imo

<laugh> That make me chuckle. When I saw the thread title I was wondering is that really his name.
Although seeing this CEO's comments I now picture him more like Herman Munster.

If he doesn't end up getting sold this window we can always do what we did with Cisse and go back next window/next summer with the same offer when he is on a shorter contract. Nothing to lose =)

Was just joking about the neg rep, but it wouldn't have made any difference anyway ........ You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Cove again.
