Why? They're British citizens. Their team plays in the English football ladder. As for these actresses...Cameron Diaz isn't that hot any more. She's got more plastic in her than a supermarket shelf. That said, I still would. Scarlett Johannson and Charlize Theron though? YES PLEASE!
wewontchange, its not about fitness, it is about training with the players you are going to start the season with, playing with potential new signings so we are a team come first game. Getting used to new formations, fitness is obviously not going to be an issue, but not training, playing in the friendlies, adjusting to our new managers style of play is. It is clear that others think the same, see the attachment. Our manager actually meeting and working with our 3 just 6 days before the start of the season is hardly ideal for what will be our hardest ever season. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...udrup-faces-olympics-headache-91466-31325225/
why will it make any difference??? it wont....footballers go on international duty all the time and it dont effect them. FiFa rules apply and every yellow or red card will carry through to next season so i hope nobody picks up any cards during the tournament, but if they do then we will just have to get on with it as you cant stop any player that has worked hard and been chosen ahead of other players to play in any tournament. Its a feather in their cap and good on them. I cant wait to see them play on the big stage assuming they will be picked that is.....
You are right and wrong Superswan , red cards etc will go on to the next competitive Wales games, so correct, but it won't effect them in the league at all
yes i can see that.. good luck to them and enjoy a once in a life time experience...(for giggs and bells anyway)
So Allen and Taylor now run the risk of yellow/red cards being carried over to Wales games. Well that's fcuking great. Why wasn't this mentioned before ? What a load of bollox Can't wait to see what Mabon thinks
so what??? you cant go through life thinking what if that happens ,what if this happens. you would never get to play in something special would you....anyway its all set to go now so this discussion is pointless they are playing and thats the end of it and what happens happens....
I dont get you wwcoi, Yes it is a feather in a cap for them and our club, But when people go off to other tournaments, it is normally at the end of the season, when most players are on the beach. Yes the african nations is in the middle of the season. But this poxy tournament is throughout the whole of our pre season. It has to cause problems for our club. If we see them as starters for us on 18/8/11 then not playig in any of the build up games is a big issue. It has to a hinderence and if because of this we are not fully prepared and lose points that ultimately send us down I will be very disappointed with all of this GB ****. How many other PL sides will have the same disruption as us None. first game QPR have no players in there and West Ham have one. If and i hope i am am proved wrong then no issue with putting my hands up and saying I was wrong. Lets just hope by them participating It doesnt come back and bite us on the arse. I would have had no issue if this tournament had been in June or even the begining of July.
Correct Trundle. ...and as for "playing in something special", this is the Olympics! You know, that Athletics event that has Sod all to do with professional football. The one which they are struggling to sell the tickets for. It is irrelevant. These boys are meant to be professional footballers. The Olympics amateur. They get paid serious amounts of money by Swansea City and are required to do all they can for Swansea City, or ship out, and yet everyone appears cool that they are putting the needs of Swansea City second. I do not understand. The mentality of those who support this Olympic football team is similar to the mentality of Royalists. A misguided, blind nationalism takes over rendering rational thought impossible. All that seems to matter is that watching "our boys" stroll out under the banner of the Union Jack makes them feel proud.
Thing is all internationals are a headache, especially friendlies ! And there is always going to be the argument about club before country, the Olympics are a huge event and as the host country we must be in every event. It's not all athletics it has a number of different sports in there. I support it fully
International football is traditional and brings in revenue to the sport (e.g. through The European Championship and The World Cup). FIFA/UEFA make money and they put it back into football. What have the organisers of the Olympics ever done for football? Yet they want our pros, who we've invested in, to help sell tickets for their event rent free? ....and to our own detriment (missing pre season). What a joke. International football is co-ordinated so that every club is missing their International footballers at the same time during league breaks. The Olympics is meant to be amateur. If our players were able to participate between the end of the football season and the beginning of our pre season, in their own bloody time, I would have no objections. The Olympics is a huge event....in Athletics, and various other sports that can't attract a paying audience. In football the big events are the Continental Cups, club and International, and the World Cup. That's what young footballers aspire too. If Scott Sinclair, for example, dreamt of appearing in the Olympics he should have taken up the Javelin or the Long Jump. As these players get paid £10,000-£25,000 a week to work for us they have proved themselves unprofessional by this decision. Great Britain could have entered a semi-professional team, a team of free agents, or an Under-18 team, we would have been well represented.
What I want to know is... If we have a **** start to the season because our pre season was disrupted, or if we lose a key Olympian or 2 through injury...and then we get relegated by a point/goal difference on the last day of the season... Who is going to pay us £90+ million in compensation? Can anyone answer me that satisfactorily?
Terror others will disagree with you on this, I am one of them. The Olympic football team are for players 23 and under with a few overage. Other countries enter strong squads so do take it seriously. it impacts our team a little as we have players in it, but as they have all played together it is very little disruption.
Lot of what ifs there, can I say what if none of that happens ? There is little point going with all that as the season is over 38 games, if we go down over a point we probably deserve to go down.
Bonymaen; Of course it's just an opinion. I'm offering it up for debate and am comfortable that I have come to my opinion based on relevant factors and the risks involved rather than sentiment. I'm not telling people what to think. Don't particularly care if everyone else disagrees with me. Valley; Take what you're saying regarding the ifs but disagree on one key point. If we go down by a small margin we probably will deserve to go down because we allowed some key players to swan off before our pre season got going properly and come back on the eve of our opening game....it's unprofessional.
Who's to say the two things will be linked? Lots of assumptions here. Btw I agree that football shouldn't be an Olympic sport. It's nonsense. In fact I think the Olympics is a bloated, mega-corporate creature that is a million miles away from its original ideals. In my view it should be about individual achievement in sport. Human endeavour at its best. That seems to have been lost imo, and in part because of the inclusion of team sports.
Terror, the points tally is over the season, if we cannot get enough points over it entirety you can't place the blame of going down on the last match of the season. We could equally go down for bad decisions by a ref, somebody mentioned on here, that qpr should have gone down because of a ref's decision in another game that relegated west ham instead of them a few weeks ago.
