This is the one good thing to come out of Sky getting the coverage. The man's a modern-day oracle (since we're on an ancient Greek theme this week). The way he predicts quali times is nothing short of genius for me.

    Excellent article, McFerrari. Thanks.

I have seen some of Sky's coverage (sometimes I get no choice) and must agree with the general feeling that despite the BBC's team being kicked in the head by their own managers, they are still managing to put on a magnificent show.

I'd leave it at that except that I've seen the sub-debate about commentators, so I will have my say:
Ben Edwards is definitely the best English speaking commentator F1 has seen since the inimitable Murray Walker; and yes, he is leagues ahead of the sycophant who conceitedly refers to himself as "Crofty".

David Croft is a waffler (I thought about a different word there), who seems to think everyone will love his pretentiousness. Unlike Edwards, he knows next to nothing about motor racing. Worse still, he gushes with his own clichés and has a style reminiscent of a 1970s DJ who think he needs to personally add to the atmosphere, rather than letting the subject of his drivel (instead of himself) take centre stage.

Croft is a slightly more listenable version of the man no-one could be worse than: Legard. Also, James Allen is almost infinitely more well-informed than Crapft…

On the sub-debate on Nissan GT-R transmissions, I think I might have something to add…

Nissan's flagship GT-R has been part of the family since Christmas, and sits alongside my personalised version of Godzilla: a full blown works R33 which I simply could not bear to part with when the time came. She has been a trusty friend for 15 years. And you know what? (this may be hard to believe, but it is true) –not a single thing has ever gone wrong with her!!! No; not even a blown bulb! –not even one bulb in cross-continental mileage that would make your eyes water! Yes, every single bulb is the very same item that came out of Japan!

Why am I talking about bulbs? Well, surely they blow sometime don't they?…

Nissan Skylines and GT-Rs (in whatever guise), are simply magnificent beasts. I have a few other cars but for a road car, nothing has ever impressed me so much, hence the new addition at Christmas…

GT-R transmissions are as bullet-proof as their engines.

    Can i have a go Cosi? I promise I won't hit a lorry, I'm not a woman.

(now we know she's ok I feel I can take the piss a bit)

Edit: now I hear she's lost an eye and her career is effectively over I feel bad about those comments

I have been really dissapointed in the Sky coverage having had great hopes for it!

"Crofty" is awful and Brundle seems to have less input and enthusiasm than previous years. Not sure on the rest of the team, to many people doing too little, but Davidson and Herbet have been an added bonus. I think Ted's input has been a valuable addition, but in really its no more than he was doing with his Note book reviews on the website.

For me they have tryed to make too much of it and would be better to condense it down with informative sessions prio and post race! For me they only need Brundle, Ted & Davidson with an anchor person!

The BBC has been even worse!

Well a friend of mine has a Skyline and he sings its praises just as you do Cosi, swear's its simply the best car he has owned, I know its pretty damned safe because I was in the front when he T boned a woman driver who pulled out of a T junction at the wrong time, although it did take a rather long time to get the right panel sections to complete the repairs.

:cheesy: It was certainly original, the reveal that is. And that translation, you'd think they could have made it more fluent; they've only had 3000 years to work on it!

As for Anderson, I like it also that he's so different, not your typical TV kind of man in the 21st century: substance over style.

Agreed. Proper bloke. Exactly what a proper motor racing enthusiast needs. Not the slightest bit pretentious but always willing to offer an opinion. Great guy too.

    Yep…

Completely agree. Ideal man for the job and offers a real insight. I learn lots of interesting stuff from him. Lenny Kravitz is good too; but despite their budget and extortion from customers, Sky have still not matched the BBC –even with the rug pulled from under them!
