Your club have said you have the money to spend on players THIS summer, so that first bit is already false.
I also agree that Liverpool are not the only club that are able to put in good money for players. KPR, on the other hand, is trying to say they are.

My post was directed at KPR more than you, I agree with what you've said...

And United come out with these statements all the time, so we'll see...
However, i'm optimistic we will spend a good amount this summer, but, for KPR's blood pressure, I won't bring it up too much.

Since KPR says we have no money, for his sake, We'll take United out of the equation, and just focus on how exactly Liverpool will be beating the likes of Barca, Real and Chelsea to the top talent this summer...

Liverpool and Man Utd fans on this board are forgetting that neither of our clubs generally go for the top players in the world, you won't see either club bidding for Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta etc but looking to sign a younger player and develop him into a world class player.

This type of player is also not going to be concerned with the clubs finances or if they are in the champions league. But will just be glad to be making that step up.

Examples are Torres, Alonso, Masch, Suarez for us. Ronaldo, Hernandez for you.

It's Chelsea and Man City that will be making the crazy bids our clubs will be using our scouting networks to find the right players at the right price.

Interesting you mention Torres. After his recent actions, leaving you for Chelsea, do you think he would still have come to Liverpool if you weren't in the CL at the time? I honestly don't think we'd have beaten Arsenal to the signature of Ronaldo if we weren't in the CL when we signed him.

I think KPR has also glossed over players who say they want to leave in order to get CL football. Ashley Young, for example, has been reported to only want away from Villa so he can play in the CL on a regular basis. If that's true, even if Liverpool offer more money than United, that might not make a difference if he doesn't want to leave Villa for Liverpool. Villa may have to sell him for less money to United, or risk him running his contract down and leaving on a free.

    Interesting..
Torres, Alonso, and Masch joined a Liverpool team who were competing..
If you were not, Torres would have gone elsewhere, as would have the other two...

And even these young gems want to play at the top, top level....Ronaldo was coveted by others, but at the time we could offer a good, attractive deal with money and top level football...Otherwise he would have gone elsewhere...

Again, even if Conor Wickham, Enrique, Charlie Adam or Alex Oxlaide Chamberlain were on your list, unless the clubs higher up don't want him, they'll likely be off somewhere else...
That is, ofcourse, unless they would rather choose due to a clubs' "history", or for likely playing time.

Every single one of those players was well known before united and liverpool bought them. Torres, Alonso, Masch and Suarez cost about 80 million for christ's sake. Hardly a brilliant scouting network!! Torres aside, we've spent similar money recently on Ramires, Luiz, Zhirkov etc.

P.s no one is remotely bothered about Liverpool at the moment, except maybe Everton.

They were all regarded as good players but not yet the stars they turned out to be, and as much as there was rumour of interest there was no bidding war for any of them! So I don't think any of them would have taken the chance of waiting or looking for an even bigger club (not that there is one above us) as an injury or drop in form might mean they miss the chance.

Suarez is a good example there was no competition for his signature but I bet a few clubs now wish they had put a bid in. Hernandez is also a good example he's shown he's class and can play at the top level.

It's getting the player at the right time for the right money, if Barca had also made bids they may have gone there.

I think both our clubs will continue to look for these players and leave the crazy buys to the clubs I mentioned.

Hernandez wasn't that well known - we signed him in April 2010 which was way before he showed his class at the World Cup. I think gonzo's point is that whilst those players were well known, they were more known for their potential than for their actual achievements to date, Torres aside of course. But then they are balanced out by the experienced players both clubs have signed - Keane, Berbatov, Cole, Carrick etc.

You kind of make my point there "Torres, Alonso, Masch and Suarez cost about 80 million for christ's sake." What are they worth now? with transfers and potential cost of Suarez already it's much more.

Even if you have more money than Utd if a player had to choose between the 2 clubs (and he was guaranteed to start at either) man utd would always come out top due to being in the champions league. The only reason they wouldnt would be if the player is only playing for money and does not care about furthering his career, and I think having 1 J.Cole is enough no?

I would say a huge racist scandal, enough to leave the club damaged for many years
