He may be behind AJ but he's still ahead of Betty et al. First choice right midfield and 3/4 choice striker who does the work of 2 men, pops up with crucial goals and is in his mid 20s. Barely warrants a reply.
I'll admit to being one of the few who were not sure about himwhen w got him...loads of energy but no end product.... having seen him last season, he was on of the players who stepped up when we needed him...some great and crucial goals TBH..be gutted if we let him go now....can only get better wih his (top drawer) attitude to the club... a great ambassador for us.......
I think you need to remove the rose tinted specs Hammersmith. Im a big Jamie fan, but a top 4 player he is not, and a 10mill player he is not. £4mill plus is probably fair value. £1mill is a slap in the face.
Was going to say the same thing , people are getting carried away a bit here. Not worth £1m , never in a million years worth £10m. We would prob deal if a 4 or 5 mil offer cam in.
This. It's not just what he's worth as a player,it's what he brings to the team. His enthusiasm and workrate rubs off on all those around him!
Exactly, underrated qualities in a player. For example: Junior Hoillet loads of skill, heart of a peanut.
Can't see this happening now, Jamie is probably the most popular player at the club and has earned his place and extended contract...
As far as valuation goes, would 4M get us a player who would contribute more to the team? Personally doubt it (even as a combination of skill and workrate). We don't need to sell him and definitely shouldn't so why sell him for a lousy valuation. Does anyone doubt that Mackie will be as hard working in training or that Hughes has the ability to eke more out of him and develop him further? 10M to any club that we're not going to be battling against for league positions otherwise we'll get more worth out of him by playing him.
If there is even a shred of truth in this one you really do despair as to what Mackie has to do to convince people he is PL quality. Unlike our other attacking subs from last term (Bothroyd and latterly SWP) he truly does add another dimension to the play whenever he is brought on and even the best defences are unsettled by him. And his goals were truly priceless yet again. It would be madness to let him go IMO.
the problem we have is that although mackie works his socks off and has the heart of a lion is that as a right winger he cant cross the ball?? with the like of cisse and zamora then we need someone who can put the ball in the box. i dont think he will be in the team next season, an impact sub at best. yes we all love him but if someone offers 4million we would be silly not to take it. i dont think he will go, just lending my opinion.
Id like to see him get more game time up front, or off the front striker...but he does mow the lawn pretty well up and down the right flank!
Is this a genuine quote or has a troll set up something? If genuine, it's the one of the most extraordinary statements I've ever seen for an official of another club, let alone the chairman. To call a good player from another team, with an impeccable record, a quarter pound of rubbish is defamatory.
Agreed Dan , Great attitude etc but natural ability he is not blessed with. He seems to run out of ideas, (watch the stoke game where he keeps running into Huth ) and his crossing is poor. But he puts in a full shift though and has the best work ethic at the club. It does make me wonder. Guys on this board complain about our style of football and also have the likes of SB and RM as their cult heros but then have Jamie Mackie as their fav player in the modern game. Its such a contradiction. It seems to me that people either love and athlete or love a footballer, not normally both. If we have the likes of Hill and Mackie in the side we have great character but not great ability , if you want us to play a better style of football then Hill and Mackie would be forfeited. Personally want him to stay as i like his work ethic but i am a football purist and would love to see a tricky winger instead.
