A new £30-million hotel and conference centre has been hailed a major step forward for Hull.

With construction work expected to start next year, the 22-storey complex earmarked for a site in High Street next to Myton Bridge will be the tallest building in the city. It will be twice the size of the nearby tidal barrier, dominating the city skyline.

About 150 full and part-time jobs will be created as well as hundreds more in construction. Operated as a four-star Radisson Blu, the hotel will have 243 bedrooms as well as health and leisure facilities. The upper two floors will include bars giving panoramic views across the city and estuary.

Sounds quite good, it's about time we had a decent hotel.

I know it will be beneficial, but my first reaction to seeing that photo was, "WOW!! How to ruin a fantastic skyline!"

It does look a bit of a lump in that image, but it should look good when you drive past the marina and you see the side of it on your left and The Depp on your right.

I expect Messi will stay there while he ponders housing opportunities in Bishop Burton.

Sounds good and the fact it will create over 150 job opportunities is even better!

Radisson Blu are very good. Stayed in one in Dubrovnik 2 years ago - great news for Hull.

I hope they have decent foundations that close to the River.....it's suprising how busy a good hotel can be the Village is pretty busy over a weekend and if there is a decent restaurant and leisure facilities...people will come. The top 2 floors are going to be a restaurant and bars so will have some amazing views....shame I don't like heights!

What happened to that "Boom" thing on the other side of the River. Is it postponed, or cancelled? Would look pretty good with plenty of buildings along the river.

Can only be a good thing for jobs round here. Can't understand any complaints given all the other eye-sores in Hull already

I live very close by to all of this.

Very exciting to see things emerging from the ground. There's plans afoot for that little area near the Deep/Marina/River as far as I understand.

Certainly a part of Hull that should be made the most of, funding for these things permitted.

    Let's crack on with it.

Let's hope they are decent jobs for local people, rather than ****ty menial jobs for imported labour.

    The location for one.

Why build it in a place where it is out of context and jars with existing buidings in terms of height, size and materials?
