A week last Saturday,Wayne Rooney was seen to swear in front of a TV camera. This started the usual media witch hunt against footballers.Last week Ben Foden the England international was arrested and cautioned for criminal damage. On Saturday the Welsh international rugby player Bradley Davies was arrested following a fight outside a pub.It would appear rugby players behaving like thugs is not newsworthy but a footballer swearing is a major issue.Do I detect a case of double standards ?
Yep, not entirely sure why footballers are looked down on/held to such high standards though. The side effect of football being so popular maybe?
Yes and I'm sure it took at least 2 cans of CS spray by the police to get the rugby buggers to calm down.
I don't think they are held to such high standards by the public. But they are way more popular than the rugby players, so the media sells more papers by having a go at footballers and highlighting their faults rather than any other sportsmen. In the end it's all about the money.
