Yes, RVP has said he won't extend his contract, but he still has a year left, so he is still an Arsenal player for the next season. Plus, RVP didn't say he want's to leave, he didn't demand a move, so maybe there is still hope he will sign on after a season if we do show ambition, so it's not all over yet.

If Arsenal let RVP go then it will be utterly pathetic, letting another one of our top players going, as Wenger said, you can't convince people you're a big club by letting your top players go, well if he allows RVP to go, it will be a summer after letting Fabregas and Nasri go, and that's not sending out a good message but a very bad negative one, that we are selling club when it comes to our top and best players.

What's the point in having great players, that when they reach their peak and start playing amazing for us, that we let them go? You can never move forward as a club on such a system, the whole point of a successful club is keeping your best players, not letting them consistently go.

Why keep a player that wants to go?

Despite his recent comments, it's been made quite clear from his actions on the field that he has a big ego and attitude, and big clubs will be in for him and offer him big wages.

    I'd personally let him go.

It's not been 'one' good season, he had an amazing season for us in 2011 when he came back from injury in December, and he had a very good season for us in 2009 with 20 goals. He was also on fire for us in 2010 before an injury hit him in October.

Too many threads about the same things. Merged this with one of the other RVP threads.

hmm... I take it we are not getting good enough offers, around the same ballpark as the one from Juventus?

Why keep an unmotivated captain in your team?

What does this statement mean? Does it mean Arsenal will keep the player for another year even though he wants to go? Or does it mean RVP will try to force a move?

tbh i think it means that rvp is going to leave. However the club are trying to insinuate that if he does its because hes doing so against their will...sort of like a retaliation to rvp's supposedly surprise comments

on another interesting note jamie sanderson claims the club have denied gaazidis is on holiday contrary to the rvp statement...this is going to get interesting. EDIT: arsenal refuting rvp's comments are true and come from communication director mark gonnella on twitter.

His "statement" is effectively a written transfer request. If a club's declared ambition is winning trophies, and their captain and best player effectively says the club will not win anything, he must go.

BTW, could RVP have put that statement so that he lowers Arsenal's negotiating power for the fee (for his preferred target)?

This does decrease the negotiating power for Arsenal doesn't it?

Other clubs can be like "**** 30 mil, he will be gone on a free next season. Take it (~10-15 mil) or leave it"

Arsenal fans will no doubt start calling him Judas and claim he is leaving for money but the truth is Arsenal have become a selling club and will NOT change their transfer strategy.

He is leaving due to a lack of ambition.
