...is football. Just take the present Rangers situation. If it was any other club (apart from Celtic) they would be put at the bottom of the pyramid without any fuss and any whining by Rangers fans would be met with moralising about financial irresponsibility. Because it's Rangers, and Scottish football as a whole make a lot of money from their participation in the SPL, the S.F.A. Are seriously considering allowing them to stay in the Premier. Today's meeting is being spun in the media as "today Rangers might be seriously punished and forced to spend 1 season in div. 1" Get to the ****ing bottom like every new club has to, fer ****'s sake. Are Rangers F. C. too big to fail?
I guess the problem is if Rangers do get sent down the TV money goes and you'll see a few more clubs going to the wall. Scottish football is cack anyway.
You're way off the mark there Tw,Celtic were days away from going out of business and there was no rescue package put on the table for them and no bending of rules and no blackmail or scaremongering etc. http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/Fergus McCann Rangers(the now dead club)and its offspring newco are part of the 'football establishment' in Scotland. Read the Daily Record's 'Rangers in crisis' column to see the underhand tactics being used to frighten clubs to vote them an easy passage back into Scottish football with minimum punishment.
look what happened to airdrie, meadowbank, livingston, might be good for the div 3 clubs to get 5000 crowds this season
I totally agree with everythin said. Rangers should be placed in Div 3 as every other club has, It is wrong that they are given special treatment, which is different to any other club. But, i wonder would the PL, FL relegate a Man Utd, Chelsea or an Arsenal if this was happening down here.
The PL doesn't rely on Manchester United or Chelsea or Arsenal economically, and if one of those clubs was to fail, there's still other big clubs to plug the gap. Unlike the SPL, who's main pitch to broadcasters is the Old Firm derby, the Premier League can afford to lose a major club, because broadcasters will still buy the rights so they can show the remaining matches. And I can't think of any other league in the world that's as institutionally based on one team; the SFA have basically shown over the last few months that inside their offices, there's rangers banners draped from wall to wall.
If they end up in Div 3 then surely it will be great for those clubs. It's only the current SPL teams that will lose out. If they are living beyond their means then they only have theirselves to blame if they go bust.
They haven't been given special treatment. I have obviously missed something - which other clubs have gone from top to bottom league?
