That is a matter of opinion. I believe it is an adjective in this context.

Believe it if you like, but that doesn't make it so. All I'm saying is that the thread title makes sense from a grammatical point of view, but then you wouldn't let something minor like the English language get in the way of an opportunity to have a dig at Portsmouth, would you?

How does it cost £30k to give tickets away for FREE to kids? Where does the £30k actually go? Pompey's bank account? I thought this money wasn't allowed to pay debts?

Anyway Pompey's various owners may have been corrupt/stupid (delete as applicable) but doesn't make the whole City and fanbase corrupt as well. They enjoyed their FA Cup win but then who wouldn't...doubt we'd have asked too closely either.

Exactly! Also, why pay to give free tickets away when the place is guaranteed to have at least 8000 empty seats per game! 3 stupid choices IMO, ths statue is a ridiculous idea but if Pompey fans really do think so highly of themselves maybe they should have one. The disabled toilets are silly as the club will most likely get wound up and be forced to close anyway.

They should have used it to help pay off Ben Haim.

It'll have a lot more than 8,000 empty seats for a lot of games. They have only sold 4,500 season tickets and will soon be ending discounted new sale prices (they even extended the deadline recently because they were getting desperate).

Perhaps it will serve as an epitaph to folly.

4500!?! Judging by the website crashing yesterday we must have sold that in the first hour.

I would imagine most people are waiting to see what happens with regards to club ownership before making the commitment to buy a season ticket, especially as I wouldn't blame anyone for being skeptical about getting their money back if we do go under.

Plus you can't really compare season ticket sales between a well-run Premier League side to a badly run League 1 side on the verge of liquidation.

It would take a lot of courage to buy a season ticket for Pompey at the moment, but I would presume the money is ring-fenced until the season starts.

So with 4,500 season ticket holders and very few away fans to boost numbers at Fratton Park in League One, there is no danger of Pompey averaging the 20,982 in League One like Saints did when they started on -10 points? Or the 22,160 in League One the season after (also with often tiny numbers of away fans at St Mary's).

Looks like you'll be lucky to average more than 9,000 or 10,000 of the self proclaimed "world's bestest fans" next season. Let alone "pack the park", which incidentally also failed last season in you hour of need.

TBF, our attandances in that first season in League 1 were better than our attendances in our relegation seson in the championship. I was at the game against barnsley that season and there were a LOT of red seats visible...

From the Sky Sports Portsmouth Factfile: Fratton Park Capacity: 20,688. Yeah I don't think that's likely somehow

Simple fact that there are more Saints fans than Pompey fans in the first place, but tbf (and yes, sometimes we should be fair) they've been through hard times recently. Lowe was a model of rectitude compared with their recent owners.

For Pompey to show they could potentially match Saints, they would have to completely sell out every single game next season in League One.

I know the Statue of the Gentleman doesn't help the current plight. My first choice would have been to give it to the PST to help the buyout. 30k is a lot of money.

I still like the idea of the statue on top of portsdown hill so he can watch over us.

I said this many times and on every occasion its been ignored.

Saints got 20000 average in L1 with a billionaire owner. (an actual one) Finished 7th even with a points deduction and have a fancy stadium which figures show boosts attendances. Season after they got promoted.

If you gonna compare attendances next season, comapring that to a club with a shoddy stadium, parasitic owner and relegation highly likely isn't exactly valid.

Sticking my neck out, 4500/5000 ST renewals is pretty good considering the above and we don't even know if we'll have a club by August the 11th. If the PST are succesful then I can see us having 10000+ STH. We just have to wait and see.
