Yes it is her - accelerated into the back of a van. Doesn't sound good as an air ambulance has been called. Fingers crossed.

Just saw the news, fingers crossed for her. I can't imagine a crash with the back of a van/lorry is a scenario the car designers envisage when designing the crash structures so I think she is going to need all the luck she can get

I imagine hitting anything would be ok (ish), but what worries me is that vans/lorries are generally quite high at the back and the F1 cars are pretty low with the high bits being the drivers head and roll hoop...

I've got a very nasty image in my head which I hope isn't true.

It sounds like a life threatening head injury after the car went underneath a loading ramp. Maria was taken to Addenbrookes in Cambridge and we can only hope it's not as bad as it sounds.

BBC Cambridgeshire presenter Chris Mann, who witnessed the crash, said the car had completed a circuit when it

Although the police say "We were notified by the ambulance service of a slow-speed crash involving a racing car and a lorry."

Hopefully it was slow enough for the helmet to take it.

I'm not a Benson fanboy, but his main job is to provide analysis once he knows the facts. Give him a couple of hours at least.

This is pretty worrying though. I can only assume that because of how low the car is, the front went underneath the lorry. Scary stuff, even if it was "slow speed", which I usually take as meaning below the pit lane speed limit.

Looks like their website is struggling a little with traffic, no update since their original statement at 10:45

At least the BBC have taken off the 'fighting for her life' part of the headline. It's easy to assume the worst in such a horrific accident, but at least there's some hope now.
