I've always liked looking at stats, but another look at our final league goalscorers list is pretty grim reading.... 1) Matty Fryatt 16 2) Robert Koren 10 3) Aaron McLean 5 4) Robbie Brady 3 5) James Chester and Corry Evans 2 It's all going to be different this year.... 1) Matty Fryatt 24 2) Emile Heskey 16 3) Cameron Stewart 13 4) Robert Koren 9 5) Paul Coutts 6
16 goals for Fryatt is pretty good considering he pretty much fed of scraps for the whole season. I think he'll come good with a decent striker upfront with him. Also, 10 goals from midfield for Roko is good going and all.
Think you've been a bit optomistic with Heskey and Stewart, but I'd be hopeful next season we'd get goals from the wingers. I'd go: Fryatt 22 Koren 11 Heskey (providing he signs) 10 New Winger 6 Stewart and Chester 5
there could be an argument that Roko's 10 goals were at the expense of others. for most of the season he was virtually a 'roving' forward, so not really a classic situation of 10 goals from midfield. if cory evans (aka almost but not quite Paul Scholes) had scored 10 goals, then that would have been a classic bag from midfield. having said that, if cory evans was anymore than an 'almost' paul scholes, then he would still be at man u!
Stewart 13 goals? Heskey 16?! Wishful thinking.. Heskey will get between 5 - 10 Stewart won't score that many.
Course not, but if/when a Prem club comes in, we can't exactly deny him the chance to play in the Premier League again. He's been great for us though so I'll personally be happy for him if he gets a return to the Prem.
Very optimistic, bearing in mind Heskeys only scored 7 in the past 2 seasons (albeit in the BPL). I'd say Fryatt around the 20 mark, Heskey, Koren, Stewart all just shy of 10 This all presumes EH will actually sign!
Exactly, people fail to remember that Evans has alot to work on before he can consider himself good enough for the top flight, let alone Man Utd. Well, players differ when they get near goal- some are alot greedier. But it can be good to have in the team. I like to have a forward thinking, attack minded striker/ play maker who has a go at goal. I hate it when we try to walk it in the net then get frustrated.
Nobody is denying Koren a return to the PL. But i doubt that he will fancy a move to the team thats odds on for the drop either. Koren when last interviewed said he wanted to help get City into the PL and he would stay as long as the club shows a similar ambition. Is there any doubts that City dont have ambition ? Bruce may also keep Koren for now and see what is what come January. Selling Koren could cost the club millions but to sell him for less than £2m would be crass stupidity. imo If any club wants him that much and Koren demands to go(not his agent) then let that club pay what he is worth. I am fed up of our quality players leaving on the cheap. I shall wait to see what we have during the friendlies before predicting who will get what. But Fryatt alongside Heskey should bring us a return of 40+ goals for the season from the pair at least. imo
It's amazing that Chester and Evans were our 5th top scorers. Chester's a great defender but offers no aerial threat and Evans is the worst finisher there has ever been. People talk about McLean but Evans missed some right sitters last season, he seems to **** up more the closer to the goal he is. How we could only find 4 players to outscore this pair is beyond me.
Reading aren't odds on to go down though, if a reasonable offer comes in what can we do? They'll double or maybe triple his wages as well. Plus he's in the last year of his deal.
