The article raises what I've been saying...

"Our budget and our real buying power remains an unknown." ... Which comes back to secrecy doesn't it?

I'm not sure what other interesting facts are in that article... Lot's of supposition... We can all do that, if allowed.

Apologies for not joining this discussion earlier, I have had a very long day at work.

I just want to reinforce what SuperChrissy said about the deleted thread - it was deleted because it was started by a poster banned from contributing to this site.

For those posters relatively new to this site and for those with short memories, Jonathan Acworth almost brought this board to its knees in the middle part of one of our greatest seasons ever.

Many posters left the board, including myself, and regrettably several valuable contributors never returned.

    This is a moderated board.

All those that post here are aware of that fact and what this entails.

Jonathan was treated with more tolerance than I could ever muster and still stepped over every line that was drawn.

I hope this makes the situation clear.

    Thanks,

    Tewkes

Do tell... what's the real buying power of Derby County? How much have they got to spend on transfers in the summer? How many players will they need to sell on?

I picked Derby County as an example of another Championship club. If you have detailed financial projections available for another Championship club, do share. <ok>

You say 'no smoke without fire'
I say 'no news is good news'

You're a glass half empty type of person
I'm a glass half full type of person.

    You're negative
    I'm positive.

We won't get on. Let's leave it at that.

IA What difference does that make...? I knew a club in massive debt like West Ham last season would keep a squad that was capable of getting them promotion, and they did...

I would like to know what clout is behind us & more importantly what the backers intentions are, regarding the future of our club.

Third rate cheesy sound bites from our City supporting front-man may suffice for many, but that doesn't impress me or many of the addicks I talk to.

I take from your comment that Derby County are as secretive about their intentions as Charlton. Thanks <ok>

Alex, You didn't leave it at that though, did you... With your response to"Bore off"...?

I don't know anything about Derby County... I know who funds Man City and I know what their intentions are... I also know they will more than likely keep all the players they want and probably add one or two more world class players to their squad, all of Which should make our Chairman happy. I don't know a fraction of what is intended for our club.

I remember an IA writing up a magnificent thread on the original 606, about how this takeover felt like a bit of let down... Are you the same guy?

I don't want to know the budget, I want to know the intentions... Whilst we have secret backers all theories are up for grabs, so no need for people to get defensive if everything doesn't have a positive spin to it..

Slater has done nothing more than give us third rate sound bites... "I want one year as Chairman of Charlton in the Premier". What the hell you got planned for us after that Mr Slater ...?

Man City is a poor example. I imagine many Charlton fans would moan if there was a Man City style takeover (the Abu Dhabi one, not just the Thai one or other takeovers), but using the biggest money takeover in Europe isn't a great point of reference

If it was a good thread, I doubt it was me.

I'm neither worried nor delighted. It is what it is. No matter what happens, I think Charlton Athletic will continue to exist at the end of this season. That in itself is more than I can say for my other club or for my job. As such, I'm fairly content with all things Charlton, crisis or no crisis.

As some have said, last season required an overhaul. This season (if ambitious) requires a few additions. If not particularly ambitious (mid table, which would be lovely), then I don't think the squad needs a massive amount of investment.

    Mid table would do me.

I said last season that as long as Powell had the bulk of his squad in place by the day of the Welling friendly, then I would be happy. He did and I was. If he's settled on his squad (whatever it may be) by the time of the Welling friendly this year, then that's good too. <ok>

I think the intention is fairly clear, he wants to get us into the premiership before stepping down as chairman. I am willing to accept that. We will be a far more valuable commodity at that point and he will have a return on his investment. Clear enough for you?

IA One can use any analogy to fit opinion. The fact remains other clubs intentions are clearer than ours.

You say "I imagine many Charlton fans would moan if there was a Man City style takeover"
Nail on head... This is what I've learned after all my years as an addick... Those that see themselves as positive, they're generally the ones who have no real ambition for the club... As long as they see us beat Palace, and stay out of administration, they're content.

You certainly aren't the same IA that wrote that thread...

It tells us nothing really, the exit plan could be something totally different if events don't go to plan... I don't remember him adding anything along the lines of "more valuable commodity" in the interview I heard, because there are no guarantees the so called plan will come to fruition... Would be nice if it happens.

If you can't see that we would be a more valuable commodity when we would have been in the Premiership for a year then the UK education system has truly failed and I have to agree with TC and Tewkes we are all doomed!

I expect to see you with a plackard outside the Valley next season predicting the end of the world, probably reminding us that we should eat less meat and telling us that being a football supporter is form of fornication.

Your first paragraph doesn't make any sense, so you may have point about the education system.

The fact remains you have no idea what the exit plan is, because you don't know the "mysterons" true motives.
