Don't know if anyone else has seen this: http://whatculture.com/sport/newcastle-transfers-7-players-pardew-should-let-go.php. I don't agree with all of it, but some reasonable points made.

For those that want to avoid the lengthy text, here is a summary (and what I would do in brackets):

    Fraser Forster - sell (sell)
Danny Simpson - sell (sell, but only if we get a replacement)
    Mehdi Abeid - loan (sell)
    Leon Best - sell (sell)
    Dan Gosling - loan (sell)
    Mike Williamson - sell (keep)
    Xisco - sell (sell)

Also I thought this was interesting: 'Added to those problems is his [Danny Simpson's] apparent reluctance to sign a new contract – something that Alan Pardew seemed keen to tie up last year – which some fans have seen as misplaced arrogance (though rumours abound that Simpson only wants to match the wages of right-back competition James Perch), and it looks like Simpson’s time in black and white might well be up'.

I'm utterly sick of people saying we should get rid of Simpson. Sure, we are playing with the big boys now, we need better than Simpson, but the stick Simpson took last season was ****ing awful and most of it uncalled for.

Apart from Raylor in the odd game, Simpson was rarely given any defensive support. He was behind either Obertan and HBA, both of whom are ****e defensively, and until the last part of the season, neither Ober or HBA tracked back at all really.

Raylor, Santon or whoever was playing LB always had support, Simpson was left to do it all by himself.

Also, nearly all of Simpson's bad games came when the rest of the team were doing ****, and I find it unfair that he got picked on and used as a scapegoat. Even if he was the worst player on the pitch, if the team does ****, you can't pick on an individual and blast him.

Simpson is currently still our most defensively solid fullback. Santon is definitely a better all round player with a lot more potential, but Santon has a lot to learn in the tactical side of the game. Simpsons experience shows.

Regardless of the odd stupid comment about how he was just "in the right place in the right time and got lucky", sometimes it was just him standing on the back post, but a few of them blocks were him reading the game and intercepting the ball, and each one was vital.

Simpson is a great RB, and as I said, I know we should try and get a better 1st choice RB, but Simpson should be kept, Unless we bring in another TWO fullbacks, because bringing in one and selling one will not help depth issues.

In regards to the others -

    Forster has already gone.
Abeid - Keep, maybe loan. Why would you sell? He's played a couple of games, and shown a promise, and we picked him out for his talent.
Best - Sell. Great striker, but no room for him in our plans.
Gosling - Loan or Sell. He needs to show what he's got, but to be honest, apart from a few decent runs into the box, he did **** all in his games.
    Willo - Keep.
    Xisco - GTF0

You'll get no arguements about Xisco going, Abeid needs to be given an opportunity to show what he can do, that probably goes the same for Gosling.

Simpson came on in leaps and bounds last season and it would be a bit stupid to let him go. By all means get rid of Xisco and if we get anything for him it'll be a bonus.

Agree with what they say on all apart from Williamson and possibly Simpson, should only to sell Simpson if we get a replacement. Gosling and Abeid could be good players but we need to loan them to teams like a Southampton or a Reading to get experience.

Mrs Magpie, can you give any reasons for selling Gosling and Abeid? They're both very young and need time to develop/recover from injury. I think its difficult for Gosling as he's grouped in with the established players despite being a lot younger and a lot more inexperienced than most of them.

As for Abeid, from what I've seen I've been very impressed, classy, good vision and ability and not afraid to put himself about.

Agree about Abeid, from what I've seen of him he looks classy and confident with a good first touch and good contribution.

Yeah, if I'm honest, Gosling has never impressed me, and when he comes onto the pitch I always find myself thinking "Why? What will he add?" ... Think its a bit unfair though, 'cause he's never had a decent run of games.

I can't stand bell ends who want to hold onto certain players because they are "nice guys" even if they are garbage.

Having a squad of good players is my first thought, the personality is just a nice bonus.

I'm sure Clarky at Brum would like to take a couple on loan, and it would be of a descent standard of football
    even though it's not premiership

true like, Barton is a proper cock, but we didn't care much when he put the ball on Carrolls head, even when he was in jail, we couldn't fire him because at least six premier league clubs had expressed an interest in him and one was going to pay his full wages, so even though he was a proper cock the powers that be had to ignore that for the good of the club. unlucky.

Abeid - was genuine error on my part, I meant to put loan - definitely not sell!
Gosling - I'm just not sure what he adds to the team at the moment. A run of games might give him confidence and us a better idea of the type of player he is, but for me he somehow just doesn't seem to fit the team. Just my opinion:)

We need to strengthen the aquad, not just in quality, but depth too. We have a tough season ahead with Europa League games and the African Nations pulling Cisse, Ba & Tiote out for key games.

We have now released the following:
    Best
    Forster
    Guthrie
    Lovenkrands
    Smith

PLUS a number of the younger lads who could have become fringe players, including the likes of Kadar, Donaldson, Henderson, Airey.

IF we were to lose some of the others on that 'sell' list we'd be struggling. We need to keep hold of the likes of Abeid, Willo + Simmo, even if some do get loaned out during periods where we have a fully fit squad. We need to strengthen the squad - not just a couple of 'big' signings of the likes of Debuchy + De Jong, but others too to give us more depth and add to the competiton for places.

I'm not covinced by Gosling - and the Everton fans all seemed happy to get rid, so they didn't see the attraction either.

As for Xisco, I've hardly seen him play. For all I know he could be amazing for us if given a run of games. But I very much doubt it. It we can get ANYTHING for him, then we should - so long as we replace with someone better.

My sister know's the Donaldson family, I don't know him personally but I thought he had a good game in him the first time I saw him play. Seems he had a spot of trouble in a bar brawl or something and lost favour. Kadar looked really good the first time I saw him and Airey seems quite good. Got one or two promising prospects coming through.
