We need to worry about Leeds and the future, Jonny Howson did not have to leave and was not forced to either. But I don't blame him for wanting to get Premiership football and away from Ken's politics either. His agent would have done well then & will do well again if he goes to Villa, so I am sure his advisor's were pushing for it. In the future we need to improve the ranks of replacements like Man Utd & Arsenal keep doing, we need to sign young talented players and keep scouting, as no doubt around Leeds in Morley, Seacroft, Horsforth & Chapeltown there will be the next Richards, Smith, Howson, Milner or Lennon.... The best place to negotiate is from a position of strength, knowing you have a replacement and can that you can afford to cash in a player (i.e Van Persie). That's where we have been getting it wrong.
Money grabbing and short sightedness has nothing to do with it. At the time Norwich were a club on the way up in the PL under an exciting young manager and he was going to play a key part in that (still is) while we were stuck in the Bates mire with no prospects of going anywhere other than backwards, and none of that looked like changing any time soon, and it's a short career. It's a sign of how bad things were that Jonny felt he had to leave (and that's if he wasn't forced). It really amazes me that some people still spout the lines they've been fed by Bates and any player who leaves becomes a money grabbing mercenary.
we won't sell him anyway. £20m is obviously exaggerated by whoever posted the original thread but i'd say £10m is about right. sorry for you but we mugged you off for howson big time. future england star. good luck with the takeover lads and make sure you treat adam drury well - he's been a great player for us over the years
Not a chance £4m will get Howson. I can't comment on how he did for LUFC but what we saw of him last season suggests to me that he is top drawer and given his age and lack of Prem League experience I can only see him improving over time. I see him as being one of our key players in the coming season and whilst we have lost Lambert to Villa unless they find a huge pot of cash to improve their very ordinary, ageing squad I can see Lambert regretting his decision to leave glorious Norfolk more than Howson regretting joining us. If he continues to progress I would not be at all surprised to see him around the England squad and looking for a much bigger and better club than Villa to leave us for, if he is that destined for greatness.
No! This second season in the Premier League will see us debt free. We are in the market to strengthen, not sell our best players. We may lose Holt, who is nearing the end of his career and understandably wants a last bigger money move (not to mention his agent), but we have a transfer kitty sufficient to bring in a replacement if we have to plus other reinforcements. So we don't have to sell anybody, even Holt, and no-one will be leaving unless it's in our interest to let them go. If we successfully consolidate this year, we will be looking to expand the capacity of Carrow Road into the 30,000s and continue to strengthen our squad. Anyone who thinks we are doomed without Lambert is way off the mark.
think we will improve post lambert my friend he put in the foundations Hughton will do the building OTBC!, hope you make it up this year new owners or not but only if you leave Colin behind when you do!
The big picture is that Leeds United should never have been in a position where the club "had to sell him."
I'd really like for you to say who, what better players for less? I cannot think of a player that we have sold of that ability for so cheap and for the owner to be incredibly happy about the deal
I was referring to the year we got relegated. HK was sold for peanuts. Robinson, Milner & Lennon were sold for 1m each.
I liked the bit where Bates took the piss out if Norwich for paying 1.4million for someone who had only 6month left!!! What a **** he is
