Rangers fan here! Whittaker is not bad going forward. His crossing is abysmal at times and whoever on here says he has pace!? Its without any doubt that the EPL is far superior
to the SPL. Whittaker struggles to defend in the SPL and he will get raped in the EPL And im not a bitter gers fan on here because he left for nothing. When he got a 25 grand a week contract! most of the Rangers fans were livid. Whittaker cost us a **** load of times in europe in the last two seasons, i will be back here to tell you i told ya so. Honestly guys, whittaker's form for Rangers in the last two seasons have been nothing short of mediocre.

Pop over to Rangersmedia and see what the guys have to say about him leaving. Yes he is getting called a judas but most are glad to see the back of him. I guarantee you he will get raped in the EPL.

Yeah, I don't think you're being bitter- I've seen the comments on the Rangers forum. Thing is, he was at one point being linked with Newcastle and Everton, so we can't be the only ones that rate him.

However, I think because of his versatility he will be a back-up- I said that yesterday.

He has no consistency! thats his problem. His form in the last two season have been well HOW CAN I PUT IT? he gets away with it because he plays in Scotland and Rangers win most their games. He cost us s- hit loads of goals in europe and he gets away with it because he plays for Rangers in the SPL.

I bet he starts a few games for Norwich then gets found out.

No pace, his crossing is garbage and he cant defend. What makes anyone on here think he will do well in the EPL. Naismith was the one to get. but i hope that we turncoat judas gets what he deserves.

sorry, but you're coming across very bitter and your final line confirms it.

its funny, but i've watched plenty of the guy up in scotland and i do agree he is a bit shaky defensively - not that he gets to shows his defensive abilities that often, but he is excellent going forward, not ok, he HAS got pace - ok, he isn't usain bolt but he is pacy enough for a full back - he's certainly not simon lappin's slow pace, his crossing is as good as any full back we've had in the last ten years, this is not a problem. you seem to have judged him solely on one or two poor performances rather than his better ones, which is often the case when someone is frustrated about a player leaving. we had it from leeds fans about howson that he was an average player who would go missing in games. turns out he is one of the best midfielders in the country.

i think he is a risk, though aren't all signings, but he would have cost about £3-4m had he not walked out and i think that tells you a lot about his ability. bigger clubs than norwich were making noises about signing him 12 months ago. having asked a few rangers fans about him this weekend, the opinion is split as to whether he will do well in england or not, but ALL of them thought he was a very good attacking full back who lacks a bit of consistency. he's a good signing whose major strength is his versatility and the fact he's a freebie has saved the club a lot of money.

he's not world class by any stretch of the imagination but we all know that only qpr sign world class players <laugh>

Indeed, in my experience, so few could be said to have "perfected" this difficult skill, that I question whether a "skill" exists at all. Yes, some manage better crosses than others, but I understand a skill to be acquirable and improvable by instruction and practice. I would say much the same about long distance shooting. The typical goals of the month hit from distance are not the product of "skill". There may be some skill involved, e.g. Fashanu's control of the ball on his hip, turn and volley for his goal against Liverpool, but any "skill" stopped there. If asked to reproduce that goal, IMO he could not do so however many goes he had.

david beckham is one of the greatest crossers of a ball the world has ever seen, but he even he wasn't as consistent when running at pace, it was often from a deeper position or standing off his marker. to cross accurately at pace is extremely difficult, that's why carrabuh's comments are so ludicrous

Sorry mate but im a Rangers season ticket holder and i will be back to tell you I TOLD YOU SO. Whittaker aint got pace! Allan Hutton has pace.

Im bitter about Naismith because he is a boy hood Rangers fan and he sat injured on the bench as we paid him for two years. And his excuse for leaving was embarrassing and pathetic! he would of gotten the respect if he had just come out and told the truth when he was leaving. As for Whittaker most Rangers fans are glad this impostor is of our books. 25 grand, IMO he should of been getting about 6 grand a week. Watch Whittaker get raped in the EPL. i guarantee it will happen.

so you've joined a football forum this week as a rangers fan, only to join to slag off one of your ex-players on another teams forum? you've not posted a single thing on your board.

    lovely!

you can come back and say whatever you like! you are coming across as bitter about naismith, and you are obviously and understandably bitter about things with everything going on at your club at the moment and you are seeing things through blinkers. i've watched him a few times with my own eyes and got a decent cross section of rangers mates to advise on his game and none of them have said he's a poor player like you are making out. as i said above, he has weaknesses but he has more strengths than you would like us to think as you've completely ignored these. he may well have been overpaid - if he was on £25k a week he's taken a pay cut to join us as our cap is set lower than that - so he's not coming for the money, he's coming for the chance to better himself and play in a better division. assuming hughton sticks to lambert's philosophy, we play an attacking game and that will help his game too.

i prefer to trust my own judgement of players and the opinions of people i have worked with and trust rather than those of people who join a forum merely to slag a player off thanks <ok>

Im here telling you how good a player he is. LIKE IT OR NOT. Steven Whittaker is a mediocre football player. You said you can judge a player? LOL Whittaker aint got pace. His crossing was abysmal last season and he cant defend. He can Score some cracking goals! and he aint bad going forward. Better to play him right midfield than Right back.

when you say he has no pace, who are you comparing him to? theo walcott??

ffs! i have watched him plenty of times - i know how quick he is. he is not slow - he is not lightening either, but he has good energy and can get up and down. really quick wingers will beat him for pace but then that's the case for many full backs. honestly, its not that difficult to understand. maybe his crossing wasn't so accurate last season - i saw less of him - but it was pretty damn good on the occasions i've seen. in fact, one game against (i think) hibs he provided an absolute beat of a cross for novo, who subsequently missed. most players wide delivery is patchy anyway, unless you're world class. you seem to be judging him on only his bad games though. he's experienced, he's comfortable on either foot, he gets up and down the pitch, he scores goals, he gets his fair share of crosses in... honestly, he's not trying to get in the barcelona team, we're norwich.

go and have a moan on the rangers board <ok>

oh, and in your honest opinion, how much would you say he would be worth had he not walked out? i ask as the gers fans i asked about him all (bizarrely) quoted the same figure, sort of. so this will be a good indication of how biased you are being...

You say that supers but I'm sure McNally said the other week that we have no wage ceiling/cap plus with surman now reportedly on 22k p/w and god knows what ruddy could be on now, whittaker may well be still on the same wage.

i very much doubt surman is on the £22k a week basic salary reported in the red top the other week - that was to create a story about holt. and there is a basic salary cap at the club, absolutely definitely, though i'm sure the bonuses are far more flexible than they used to be <ok>

Im not moaning!! im telling you how good a player you got. LOL, Novo left two years ago ffs. How much pace has Whittaker got!? he got skinned bad a few times in the SPL and his positioning is brutal at times. Im only telling you how good a player you got. You're trying to make a mediocre player look like a good signing. He will get run ragged in the EPL. Hes been the Rangers boo boy for the last two seasons! Most Rangers fans thought he want good enough and wanted him replaced.
