Celtic are understood to be in the race for Manchester City kid Mohammed Abu as well.

The 20-year-old midfielder is being farmed out by the English champions as they look to build his first-team experience.

Abu has just completed a short-term spell at Norwegian club Stromgodset but City now want him to take a step up the ladder to a stronger division.

However, Parkhead chiefs face competition from Anderlecht, Espanyol and Mallorca for the Ghanaian, who has already collected four caps.

Abu admitted: “I know Anderlecht have been to watch me.

“There have also been Dutch teams in the stands with Spanish and Scottish sides interested as well. I enjoyed Stromgodset but City want me to play in a stronger league to speed up my development.

Well we can forget about that one then.

I was delighted to see Celtic and Allan Thompson have reached an amicable out of court agreement. The last thing either Thompson or Celtic
want is truths and half truths making allegations about both sides in a public court to allow the "sevco hurting " media an opportunity to make
mischief particularly against Celtic. I would have thought it wasn't in any Celtic fan's interest to spread unfounded rumours against either
side. Thompson has been a good Celt for ten years and now he deserves an opportunity to move on.

How do you figure he deserves an opportunity to move on if we don't know why he was sacked? I'm sorry but whilst he was a good player for us that's all he was, he does not escape criticism if it's due just because he once played for us.

I heard he was turning up drunk or late nearly every day, if that's the case then we should have let him take us to court. IF that was the case.,

Dev You say that you heard he was turning up late nearly every day.
You then say if that was the case. So it seems to me you are happy to spread a slur on his character without knowing rather it was true
or false. My point is when we don't know his good service as a player I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. If I knew for sure the
reason he was sacked I would post it. There are enough anti Celtic people about to post and put in the media half truths and half lies about
    Thompson and Celtic.

He was charged with drunk driving a few months ago, then Celtic sacked him, figure it out for yourself.

As a player he was a good servant to Celtic so if he's got a problem/s now I hope he gets himself sorted and I, for one, wish him all the best in doing so.

I would have done but for the fact he was taking Celtic to court for unfair dismissal. Maybe he should have done the decent thing and just walked away (sic), after all he has been handsomely paid by us.

Whether Hoops belives it or not the word is out (and the word is usually correct in matters like these) that he was constantly pissed or hungover. As far as I am aware he was offered counselling and assistance but that's a two way street and it seems Thommo was not fully appreciative of Celtic's efforts to help him.

Do you honestly believe Neil Lennon would have phoned him personally to give him his jotters (after Thommo failed to show for an agreed meeting) if Thompson had been the innocent party?

I know there are two sides to every story but I have not yet heard anyone deny the rumours about his behaviour. I wish him well but he's not above criticism as Hoops seems to be arguing.

Fair enough Dev. I understand how these things work and if it is true that he has an alcohol problem then I'm sure Celtic would have done all in their power to try to help him overcome it - as an employer, the club would have been duty-bound to do so in any case.

In respect of your question as to what took place or the situation which occurred between Neil Lennon and Alan Thompson, I am in no position to answer that categorically (nor, do I believe, is anyone else) but Neil Lennon is a hot-headed character so it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he got it wrong on that occasion. He may, on the other hand, have handled things absolutely correctly for that matter.

As far as a threatened court case is concerned, I suspect that was immediate, angry, gut reaction or bluster from Alan Thomson on being sacked which in a way is understandable but the fact that it has now been settled, seemingly amicably, in the cold light of day, is a good sign all round.

As is the case with anyone afflicted with the disease, one cannot help but sympathize and I would hope that most, if not all, Celtic fans would share that view. The fact that he served Celtic well as a player certainly influences me in my good wishes towards him. As you say, however, he has to appreciate and take advantage of any help offered and if he doesn't, of course, any compassion that fans have towards him may be seen to have a limited shelf life. My view of such matters, however, tends to be, 'there but for fortune ... '

I was talking to one of the girls works in the shop at the stadium, this was with about a month of the season to go and she said he was on his way out for coming to work still pissed from the night before so it came as no surprise to me (though I had expected it to happen sooner).

As for letting him take us to court, that weould have been the wrong thing to do regardless of him not having a leg to stand on (no pun intended) because it would have brought us negative publicity and why give our detractors an excuse to have a go.

Just another thought but it probably makes more sense to bury the story before any clouds settle over paradise when we're (hopefully) on the verge of making some decent signings to prepare us for the Champions league campaign. That we allowed this sort of situation to get out of control in the form of a legal wrangle could potentially have put marquee signings off <ok>
