I don't think it's realistic for a new manager to get us promoted this season, nor do I think a new man would be in the best position to bring together a radically different set of players.

Dyche is in the best position to get our better players and some good new players gelling. If in doing that our results meet the Pozzos' expectations, fantastic. If not, he will have done a lot of the ground work for their preferred manager, as the players they intend to bring in will be here and will have settled down.

Keeping Dyche in the short term seems like a win-win situation for them.

Theres been a body of opinion on here that Dyche will be a successful manager here or elsewhere, have doubts meself. If he also has the belief, if asked to stay surely he'd need to ask for a long contract for security....unless they have the dosh to pay a few seasons wages in one.

How long is SD's contract? If he is to go they would have to pay him off.

On another note I wonder if stories about the management of the club under Baz will emerge now we have new owners. Will we hear why people chose to leave or not to come to us. Did Malky, for example, assess the situation under Baz as being untenable and decided to jump ship at the first opportunity?

As I understand it he has a 1year rolling contract, meaning that if asked to go he is due for a years compensation.

Whatever happens to him he did the club proud under the most trying of circumstances. From what has come out, not a lot, Baz has been very difficult to work with. Kevin Affleck, who has been shown to have good contacts whatever has been said about him, has contributed to a new book and says that he will be revealing some of the strange and wonderful behind the scenes going on.

Thanks for that Frenchie. Given Baz's erratic behaviour I guessed that he wouldn't be easy to work with.

I am sure Sean will get a job relatively easily, and he will always be a hero at Watford. Perhaps for his WFC reputation it is better for him to go. Aidy would have been a hero if he hadn't had his final season with us.

The main positive in all this is that we can now expect some stability of ownership-- 3 to 5 years with the same owner is just what we need, and the pozzo's need at least that time to prove their model. Plus these owners are serious businessmen who understand the football business and seem to have a strategy for the successful running of a football club. They will want us to stay in this league and will be careful of the Academy structure and player development,so that is all very good. But the price may be continuity-- I expect some turnover of management and coaching staff and also players, and I am not sure the new owners will be too bothered about our traditional values -- the "community ethos" etc. Also the chap from West Ham was in charge there during the Tevez affair--he was quite comfortable with the idea of "third party " ownership of players--a very damaging direction for football in my opinion. He does seem to view players as "investments" first and foremost-- is that the way forward?

I think talk of promotion is premature if not way off the mark. The new owners will not be instructing the manager to target the Prem. nor providing funds to buy established players or going for high wage imports. Keep your expectations realistic.

I'm with you there, Roger. None of us know what the Pozzos want for Watford yet. As long as we are not in, or expect to be in, a relegation struggle each year, that will be an improvement on what has happened in recent seasons.

I have read elsewhere that people expect a new stand as a result of the takeover. From a business point of view I can see no justification for that unless we get promoted. If promotion is not a priority, then no new stand.

On the other hand if the EPL is seen as a means to increase the income of the club, then maybe that will be the goal of the Pozzos.

What I think I am trying to say is that there are so many possible scenarios, given that we know nothing of what the Pozzos are after. Hopefully they will be more open that Baz was.

yay, yay and double yay! I'm nervously excited about the coming season..and the future of our club! I do wish they'd keep SD..i hope they have a change of heart...he deserves to stay, and i hate the show of disloyalty getting rid of him would bring..but...no one is bigger than the club...not even our wonderful Manager who really should be staying!

The statement from Udinese(thier website) talks of using the same model to achieve success with us.
The English is a bit ropey, but thats what it means.
It won't happen overnight, but they want the EPL.

R68.......I don't agree with you, I think talk about possible promotion is NOT way off the mark. Who knows what the immediate future will bring particularly with the Pozzo family's experience. My own personal reservations are primarily with this chap Scott Duxford. He didn't do well at Wet Spam and cost them a bucket load of money for their trouble. I feel he is one to be very careful with.........

Don't forget, the takeover is subject to FL approval. Anyone know how long that takes to get?

Who knows, but what possible grounds would they have for delaying - or even refusing - given the speed with which they approved Bas as a fit & proper person? Or does owning two successful clubs in two other countries count for nothing?
