Its worth trying the first few books to see if you can get into them, I bought the first three. I've seen Abercrombie mentioned somewhere before so might have a go with that next.
I am doing the book with Wrecking Ball Press, though they're not based at Cavendish Square(that was a home address), they're now at offices down High Street. The book is semi-autobiographical and is the story of the teenage son of a Colonel in the British army, stationed in Singapore during the 60's. It's basically the story of a lad who drinks too much Tiger beer, while trying to get his leg over and hanging out with his two attack dogs called Rape and Pillage(not forgetting his cat, ****bag). It's written by AP Wolf and was first published in 1991, it was his only book, but it's crying out for a sequel, something we're working on at the moment. please log in to view this image 9 days to go if anyone fancies a copy... http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/products/a-p- wolf/shane rhodes/vagabond/9220994/
A Most Wanted Man - John Le Carre .. yep another spy story but one that left me in limbo, plot weak, and finish even weaker, sorry John after Tinker Taylor/Smiley's People a bit of a let down, (yes I know there have been a few books in between) although I read that a film is going to be made, release 2013 of A Most Wanted Man. Hope the film is better than the book.
I've recently finished reading 'My Heroes' By Ranulph Fiennes, It's a great book with some really inspiring stories in it. Definately worth a read. This 50 shades of Grey lark seems to have caused a right stir, Every member of the fairer sex I have on my facebook seems to be having a crisis over it.
Cavendisg Square is off Margaret St. Sounds interesting OLM. So who is AP Wolf then? I. too am available for a book launch, it is my thread after all. Just googled AP Wolf, he may be a she? Is he a local boy/girl?
I'm looking for something similar to the Jack Reacher books. With Tom Cruise cast as the main role I'm not finding the ones I haven't read as enjoyable As for recent reads then I took The Hunger Games trilogy on holiday not expecting to like it. Thought they were great, but may have been due to reading sat by the pool where anything is pretty good (apart from Toys by James Patterson)
AP Wolf is actually a pen name and it's the experiences of a teenage lad(so it's a he) and he's not local.
He's well up for the sequel apparently, I haven't seen any of it yet, but the first couple of chapters have already arrived at Wrecking Ball HQ.
I really should read more - since being a kid and reading the likes of Harry Potter, Alex Rider etc I've barely bothered. Finished off The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo about a fortnight ago and I'm now getting started on Played with Fire. I still need to get around to seeing the Dragon Tattoo film mind.
It was on Sky last night. Having seen the English version, I was quite keen to see the Swedish version, but the missus won't do anything with subtitles, so I missed out.
This week I have been mostly reading: 1. The Second World War by Anthony Beevor; 2. All Hell Let Loose by Max Hastings ; and 3. Soccornomics by Simon Kuper and Stefan Szymanski. MoH
Shame that. The Swedish Salander is Salander in my mind, when I saw the Hollywood version I wasn't that impressed
Got to go on 'Beevor Patrol' myself soon - haven't read "D-Day" yet, never mind "The Second World War". But I really rated "Stalingrad", "Berlin:1945" and "Spanish Civil War" (the revised/updated edition)
