Haven't read the replies after this so apologies if it's been mentioned... But what you say here is all good and well when we are in possession of the ball. I'm not sure how we will operate under Laudrup but our style since Martinez has always been to try and get the ball back ASAP after losing it. If you compare the amount our players close down to another premier league team you could say that what we play is pretty high tempo, and I just don't think he would have the legs for it.
I would take.him in a heartbeat proven world class and think what he could bring no question take a punt
Correct, his contract ends tomorrow. Surfed around the internet, estimates for his wage are around 100k to 120k a week at Milan. He was near a deal with Botafogo in May but all went silent there. From what i understand is that the offered him around 40-50k a week. His agent said back then that the salary wasn't a deal breaker, he just wants to play his final years at a high level.
I can't see it happening at all, its just idle speculation by the OP. Let him go to West Ham I say and we will get someone who can actually improve under Laudrup and give us an asset that can be sold on, with this guy there is no asset after the season has ended. The Swans will not be used as a final pay off for ageing players. The Senna deal last year is a case in point.
Valley, I accept that my post was speculation (less of the idle, if you please) but I do resent being referred to as an Oldaged Pensioner. My take is this. The player wants to taste PL football before he ends what has been a hugely illustrious career; that by ANY definition. I have the feeling that if he gets a chance with the right club his wage demands will be sensible. He might even settle for a "token" (God, I wish there were more tokens in MY life!!) £20k a week. If that proves to be the case, I stress "IF", we are likely to get £1 million for Dobbie, which would cover the outlay for the year anyway. Now, in my opinion, in the context of the rewards on offer in the Premier League, that is not a lot of money to pay for our guys to work cheek by jowl with one of the true greats of the modern game. Think what the likes of Joe, Leon and even Dyer and Sinclair could learn off this guy - lessons that would be of huge future benefit to them and the club in future years. Even if we sell them on (likely) they would be far better players and their transfer fees would be higher. Seedorf's legs might not be what they were but his brain, football intelligence, passing ability and experience are still very much intact. He might not be able to run that fast with the ball but does he have to? He has the sort of vision that can spray defence splitting passes at will - and just imagine the input he would be giving our players, directing and guiding them on the pitch in game after game after game. Remember that this guy has spent his entire career at the very top of the game playing with and against the world's greatest players and under the world's best managers and coaches. Would we benefit? You bet we would!!! Michael Laudrup dictating the tactics off the field and Clarence Seedorf seeing that they were implemented on the field. Finally, in terms of his cost, each PL place is worth £800k and I'm certain that he could be worth at least one place better for us. And his legacy? Not in a sell on situation as valley correctly points out but rather in the wealth of experience, knowledge and professionalism that he would have imparted to the rest of our team. They say that you have to play with and against the best to improve as a player. Well Seedorf has been one of the VERY best and if the terms were right I'd sign him like a shot.
Bang.on ivor with you 100% would be a quality signing and look at act who let pirlo for nowt that wasn't the greatest bit of business either
I am not calling you an OAP mate, but will do if you want I don't think this player will even be on our radar, and to be honest I will be disappointed if he is. We need players that are a decade younger who are hungry enough to go forward with their career. There are plenty enough out there that could fit the bill, and I'm sure Laudrup will be using his contacts in Spain to good effect, he will go there to bring some quality younger players to the liberty. I am quite excited at the prospect of it all .
Agree with you about the younger players, valley, but sometimes it pays to have an an experienced head to guide them and bring them on. Especially an exceptional experienced head such as Seedorf. Mind you, I have no reason to believe that we are interested in the player. As he is available for nothing, I just wondered if he could do a job for us. Still think he could.
Seerdorf's been there, done it and earned his £mmm's so his desire to play in prem, I feel, is a personal one and not financially motivated. I doubt he will play in the Premiership though due to the worldwide clamour for his signiture, particularly from MLS. I, personaly, wouldn't want him playing at the Liberty, simply because I fear we'd be reduced to being a fall guy in Seerdorfs story. Win a game and the vampire media; TalkSport, MOTD, football press for example, would report on 'Seerdorf steering Swans to victory'. Lose and '...Swans aren't good enough for the great man'. Signing him would take the focus away from us as a fresh, exciting addition to the Premier league, to us being a byline in the thousands of pages devoted to 'The Clarence Seedorf Premiership Odyssey' He's an amasing player but he wont fit here so cheers Clarence, see you at West Ham maybe
Why not offer him a player/coach role (assuming he wants to coach)? He'd do wonders for us on the pitch and would inspire the youngsters off it. Buggrit sign him anyway, the guy is class and is keen to prove himself in the Prem. Iawn. Defo need a centre back too though, who is out there that suits our style? Barring caulker of course.
Dutch press this morning: Seedorf pens two year deal with Botafogo. Apparantly his wife is from Rio de Janeiro, and thus he wanted to play in Brazil. He waved down a couple of high paying contracts from China according to Dutch sportsnews website nusport.nl
Seems West Ham pulled out of the deal because CS wanted between £60/70 grand a week. As much as I fancied him coming here, no way would I have been happy at that sort of money which, of course, Huw would never have entertained in a million years. And rightly so. Seems Clarence taking a pay cut to play in the Premier League was just a figment of someone's imagination. Mind you, apparently he did turn down a fortune to play in China choosing instead to go to Brazil. But then his wife is Brazilian, so it was never going to be otherwise.
Not to great, horrible season at FC Utrecht. He was in the starting 11 at the start of last season but after one third of the season coach Jan Wouters but him on the bench after appalling results. After that he only had sub ins for 20 minutes max. But then again, the entire FC Utrecht squad had a very poor season so he wasn't the only one.
FC Utrecht: Michael Zullo(23), Left-back who had a decent season. Good crossing and passing technique, lacks a bit of skill in the defensive department. Haven't seen enough of him to make a full report Adam Sorata(23), midfielder, benched last season, haven't seen him in action. Heracles Almelo: Jason Davidson(21), defender for Heracles Almelo. Small town club in the east of the country. Played 6 matches last season, but i haven't seen those matches. Or he was invisable. That's it.
