Why ? - he`s the best British player there has been for 80 years, and he doesn`t get the credit he deserves. He`s been No2 in the world, but it still isn`t good enough. So his sense of humour is dry, big deal.
I don`t find him miserable at all, quite the opposite. Why the need to describe him as a Scottish prick - why not merely a prick ?
Scottish idiot ? - there seems to be some racist comments creeping into this thread, which the moderators should be looking at. Remind me, isn`t he the last British player in the contest, so cut him some slack, and support him.
Is people pointing out Andy Murray is Scottish actually racist though? Guly is black, Tadanari Lee is Asian, Rickie Lambert is Scouse, Jack Cork is white. Holy **** I'm on a racist riot! Ohh wait no, they're all facts.
But why refer to him as a prick, when he is clearly the best Brit in that sport for donkey`s years. I wouldn`t dream of referring to any of the above in such a manner.
No, calling him Scottish is not racist, it's just incorrect (he is British). However, calling him a Scottish prick is wandering into dodgy territory. Would you call somebody a B***k prick? Also I think that disliking him for his ABE comments is a bit childish. Firstly, it was a joke FFS, and even if it wasn't, he was just giving a straight answer to a question, which I always prefer to one of those normal sports persons answers where they say nothing in 20 words. If Danny Fox or Morgan Schneiderlin said the same thing, would you boo them because of it? Then again, I have cheered against the England rugby team many times, so perhaps I have a skewed view.
I couldn't care less about his ABE comments? I just think he's a miserable, overrated prick. And, yes, he's a miserable overrated Scottish prick. And no, I wouldn't say, let's say, Ashley Cole, is a black prick. I know race is a very touchy issue and that people would be offended by me calling Ashley Cole a black prick, so I wouldn't say it even though I'd take no offense to it personally. However there has to be a point where things stop being considered racist and horrendous and can be just taken as a lighthearted, tongue in cheek comment, like calling Andy Murray a miserable Scottish ****er. It's not racist, nor is calling Ashley Cole a black prick, but it's different. HOWEVER. If I said Andy Murray is a prick because he's Scottish, that would be different. And if I said Ashley Cole is a prick because he is black, that would be VERY different.
Certainly an exciting finish to Murray's match last night as they raced the clock. I think that actually improved Murray's game as he had been a bit lacklustre. Certainly miss Henman's serve and volley game though. Murray is not one of those 'ray of sunshine guys', but he is certainly not humourless and seems to be a nice guy. He can appear ruthless as he gets rid of staff in his quest to be the best he can be, but sport is a competitive business and I'm sure they are well paid in recompense. Will Murray win a major? Like Henman he is a very talented and successful sportsman, but he has some talented people above him in the rankings...he will need luck as well as skill.
I can easily understand the desire to reciprocate the "anyone but England" sentiment and indeed I am not unhappy when their national team loses another match. I do not extend that to Andy Murray as a Scot. He is undoubtably proud of his origins and a hugely talented player, but not everyone is brilliant at interviews and dealing with the media, particularly when very young. I hope he wins a major one day.
Who hasn't made a throwaway remark that comes back to haunt you? It's not like we make remarks about the Scottish football team is it??? When we compete as Britain I am British, but when we compete as England I am English. It's the same for Andy, no doubt.
Come on Tim................err I mean Tsonga! Think I keep the kibosh on his opponents, so theres hope for the Scot still.
He will never have a better chance to reach the Wimbledon final, and i've always believed that sport is all about taking oportunities when they present themselves.
Enjoyed Murray's match. Tsonga next...should be another good game. Shame cricket was rained off...we can't pass Australia in the rankings now.
