This must really p**s off those Cardiff fans who are still in firm denial about our success. Terry Venables article headline in the Sun newspaper today.

PREM CLUBS DO KNOW HOW TO KEEP THE BALL..... JUST LOOK AT MAN UNITED, SPURS - EVEN SWANSEA.

An extract from the article reads: "Our critics complain that we will never do better at a major tournament until we learn to keep hold of the ball.
And we will never manage to do that because we do not have the players and it is not in our culture to play that way.
I agree wholeheartedly with them that we need to retain possession much better.
But I do not agree that England do not have the players or mentality to do so.
The way these people are talking, you would think we still play in hobnail boots, with a lace in the ball and kick players up in the air.
Do these critics not watch the Premier League?
The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and even Swansea ALL PLAY A BRAND OF FOOTBALL TO MATCH THAT SEEN ANYWHERE IN EUROPE AND ANYWHERE AT EURO 2012. (my caps).

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the most respected people in football rates our brand of football equal to anything in Europe. I ask you this, folks: are we good or are we GOOD? Seeing praise like this makes my heart swell with pride. We have never had a profile like this, even during the halcyon days of Tosh and his wonders.

For my part, I want to say a huge thank you and well done to the Board and the players. Long may it continue and I hope that Michael Laudrup is keeping up with our press. He has joined a club that truly could be on the verge of great things and it just might inspire him to take us into the stratosphere.

It's always been great following the Swans (even in the old Division 4 days , the dreams were different then ) we're now at a much higher level and the recognition of our club is really something to be proud of

Penny dropping Ivor? Maybe my prediction of us finishing between 10th and 7th, not so unrealistic! I have always maintained, that we needed to keep our continental passing game as the managers came and went, the best thing that Huw Jenkins and the board ever did for Swansea City was to appoint our Rookie Martinez. We can thank Martinez for shaping our foundations to the game we have today, and in the fullness of time, it is he who will rightly get the recognition for our game today.

If we can keep the heart of our team healthy and fit, and allow Laudrup to strengthen our forward line, then I'm sure we will make our presence felt again this year in the Premiership, and what's more I can't wait till the end of the season, to stick it to the QPR boys, who have us down for relegation again this season! obnoxious lot, most of them!................

What's with the "and even", we should be close to the head of that list. Our passing statistics and time in possession clearly put us at the head of that list.

How are you Ivor? OK I hope. <ok>

Understand your sentiments regarding some of the Bluebirds, but there were quite a few of us telling you how good you are when you some of you guys couldn't grasp it.

As I've said on many occasion, the legacy of Martinez will continue to serve you well as long as it is respected, and I think under the control of HJ, all encumbants of your managers chair will be required to play the beautiful game beautifully. I have no problem in admitting how envious I am of your current status, but that won't stop me applauding the way the club conducts itself these days, and I'm sincerely delighted that you are getting the plaudits that you richly deserve right now. Long may it continue.

Phil I also remember the way you 'supported', Huw, Sousa, Brendon (or is that Brenda) and the team! You slated the beloved Swans on numerous occasions,Chairman manager and individual players. You even hoped that the Swans would lose pre-season friendlies when Brendon started. You can try and rewrite what you said but many of us remember the despicable way you wrote of our beloved Swans. I just cannot believe your barefaced cheek!

You tried this type of attempt some time back, why don't you move on to a knitting forum, it's probably more suited to your female sensitivities! Brenda's gone good riddance, get over it! go and menstruate somewhere else, I hope the Mods see your post as an attempt to ruin a perfectly good thread, it seems to me you bare a remarkable resemblance to our Aussie!.................. <cheers>

Facts are facts Phil, im sure the mods also saw your slating of the Swans and are now laughing at you as you try and wriggle your way out of it! Even managing to try and be condescending to Ivor! Ive always supported both the team, management and manager! I fully support what ivor says, total football for us, no plan B. There is only one way to play and that is with the ball on the floor, pass and move! A big thank you to Huw and the team for sticking by their guns!

Clingo, I'm feeling fine and sincere thanks for your good wishes.

I'm glad you realised that I was referring only to those Cardiff fans who keep giving us pelters no matter how well we do. It's always good to chat with decent supporters and, in a better world, both sets of our fans would applaud the success of the other's club. Utopia, I know but I do remember, when I couldn't make a Swans' away game in the old First Division, going to Ninian to cheer on Cardiff (I lived there at the time). I stopped going when I let slip that I was from Swansea and guys I had previously been standing with on the terrace, warned me about coming back. I never went again. Very sad.....

Phil, the penny dropped many years ago before I ever started posting on 606!! I don't disagree with your final place prediction because we might well achieve it. However, given that we have a manager new to the players and new to the Premier League, I have tempered my enthusiasm and will be more than happy with lower mid table.

That said, if Laudrup hits the ground running and his signings improve our deficiencies of last season (faster tempo, better finishing etc) I think that we might even push the top six. I didn't see anything in this League last season that frightened me, so as long as we push on, we should be fine. It's all to play for.......

Yankee, I had a laugh about that too. I don't think it was meant offensively though. It was said more out of surprise than anything due to our having been a Championship club the previous season and not being recognised as one of the big hitters. That perception is obviously changing now.

Ivor I'm sure it did, the penny that is, though you did have some concerns over Huw appointing GJ, which to be honest I did too, but your dark horse has come in well, and to me we are moving to another level this season, and Laudrup should put the final touches to our Barcelona style! Great days indeed........... <cheers>

Good post, ivor. I agree that the use of the word 'even' is a bit galling but I know what he meant.

<laugh>'Facts are Facts Phil' that didn't half make me laugh Gendros! Trouble is you didn't present any facts! just opinions, nothing wrong with that, that's what this board is all about, opinions, though your diving into this thread with an agenda, and no respect for Ivor's thread, tells me volumes about you, and I'd like to ask you how long you've been a stalker? and how long have you been fixated by me? Just asking, hope you don't think I'm being condescending, though it's been some time since I've conversed with a two year old! By the way this will be my last response to you, as I have too much respect for Ivor, not to ruin his thread pontificating with you......................... <ok>

when you get praise from someone like T.V then you know we are doing something right and long may it continue. A word of caution though...Lets not put pressure on Mr laudrup and the players to finish near the top because we are entering a new era with a new manager and some new players and it wont be easy in their first season to eclipse what we achieved last season, If we can do it then thats fantastic but lets just see how it goes and should it happen then thats a bonus in Mr Laudrups first season, we will be playing the game in a slightly different style due to his stance on forward football and because of that i will be happy with survival this season as everyone find their feet....I dont want to expect a top ten finish as if it dont happen then it puts a downer on the season....

Well I tend to agree too dai. No disrespect but I do think there's a tendency to get carried away by some, though perhaps its perfectly understandable bearing in mind how ell we did last season. Mid-table again for me and most of us would be chuffed with that. It'll take a few years at this level to really kick on imo.

Not sure about that, musty. I agree that for a club like ours staying up is the priority but I think most fans would like to see us match last season at the very least. Finishing above Liverpool would be soooooo sweet. <laugh>
