To mark the 60th anniversary of the tournament Monsieur Platini proposes not to have a tournament held in a single country or in a shared region, but to have 1 city in 12 or thirteen countries hosting matches.

Michel Platini says Euro 2020 could be spread across continent

Uefa president Michel Platini says the 2020 European Championship could be spread across various cities in Europe, rather than having a single host.
Traditionally one or two countries have hosted the tournament, which is being held in Poland and Ukraine this summer.
The next competition in 2016 will be hosted by France.
"The Euros in 2020 could be held all over Europe," said Platini. "It could be either one country and 12 stadiums, or one stadium in 12 or 13 cities."

    Genius or madness?

one stadium in 12 or 13 cities ? does that mean inventing some sort of pop-up mobile footy pitch ??
i just would oppose both Hosts getting a free entry ,especially if its held by 2 poxy little nations

As long as the teams don't get unfair home advantage then it would be ok I guess

What a stupid idea this is. The mans a baffoon. 12 cities hosting. So we get through and could play games at Helsinki, kiev and Madrid in the same group stage...and what about the fans,I am sure they would welcome the extra cost and time taken from venue to venue. He should be force fed his own head the tit

The only problem is, are people going to be willing to pay £200/300 to travel around from country to country. To me it's just a money making scheme. If this is to be done, give it to countries that say have never had the euro's before and you're trying to get involved more in football... promotes the game on a bigger scale AND the countries that are hosting it.

I think this is a very good idea. Why have host nations? Why not pic the best stadiums across europe? Travelling these days is not an issue, there would be no home advantage and there would no longer be the corruption of nations "bidding" to be hosts.

For once I think Platini has come up with a good idea.

Unfortunately, his idea of increasing the number of countries taking part in the finals stinks!

I think it is a pretty good idea.

But of course, nobody is going to like it if Platini says it.

I like the idea. Each group is allocated two/three stadiums normally so just ensure the stadiums for 2020 are nearby for each group. I.e if Group A had their matches in Lisbon and Madrid, Group B in London and Dublin, etc.

Some other cities could only then stage a game in the knock-outs to reach the number of different cities he wants. I imagine it wouldn't want fans to travel from Moscow to Paris to Athens for three consecutive group games as that would be ridiculous. And I also doubt all the host cities will give their country an automatic qualification for the group stages like we currently see with the host nation(s).

I like Platini mainly due to his views on technology, but this idea despite making sense in theory will lead to games where the people at grounds are locals or the ground are half empty, who on earth would want to watch Poland v Czech Republic in Madrid? The main thing wrong with this is that its forgotten completely about those fans who want to go to the games, its like saying 23 of Hull City's away matches well be played in Africa this year. You have to think of the fans unfortunately and this idea hasn't

I just don't understand why those in charge of football are so obsessed with change in the last couple of years. Alsmot everything that has until recently been a long-standing tradition has been changed just in the last year or two: weekend CL finals, League Cup starting before the league season, FA Cup final before the end of the season, a number if teams at the next euros which isn't a power of 2 and so will never be fair, '39th matches' in the PL played in the far east, world cups in the most bizarre countries who don't even play the game, the list goes on...

Why is there such a desperate need for change on these things, yet issues which actually need tackling have been ignored for years. Probably because the various decisions makers spend all their time thinking of random things like this.

On the face of it it's a good idea, but unless he plans to give free plane tickets to anyone attending the first game then the stadiums are going to be nigh on empty.

I dont think it's such a bad idea meself. One group could play in Spain/Portugal, another say in Germany/Poland, One in the UK and another in Scandinavia.
Quarters in like Madrid, Munich, Malmoe, and Manchester, semis in Paris and London and the final in Barcelona.
That can be tweaked a bit of course but the concept aint that bad at all.
Would make for a nice few weeks of football but you would have to be carefull of not giving any team too much home advantage

Platini actually said it was the idea of the Scottish and Irish delegates at a meeting a while ago. He was actually laughing in the press conference when asked about it. If he backs it then yes i agree he should GO.!!!!!

Yes and take Septic Bladder along for the ride and then leave the pair of them on Mars for good. Job done.

Better still, have both Bladder and the Frog locked up in a padded cell and throw away the key.!!!
