    Afternoon all

I've read a few stories this morning regarding our former striker Pavel Pogrebnyak with the headline 'Pog snubs Fulham to sign for Reading'

Now it is my understanding that Pog wanted to stay here but was seduced by the ridiculous wages Reading were willing to pay (65k per week, official). Pog's agent came back to Fulham hoping they would increase their offer but were unwilling to do so, and so Pog was gone.

This accurate interpretation of events would suggest that Pog did not snub us and infact wanted to stay here all along. If we had improved our offer or even matched Reading's he would be a Fulham player. The fact of the matter is that he is not worth anywhere near 65k per week and Fulham were smart enough to recognise this. If he had continued his hot streak of scoring then fair enough, but one goal in nine appearances towards the end of the season against defenders with tired legs is not 65k per week material.

The bottom line is, if we wanted Pog we would have gotten him.

Apologies for this irrelevant rant, there were just a few posts from Reading fans on their clubs forum making it seem like they are bigger and better than Fulham because they 'stole' Pog from us.

They even suggested looking at Ramsey to make it three from three (Pog, Rhodes, Ramsey). If we were interested in any of these three players they would join us, plain and simple.

    Bandit fair point and agree.

The team as we have said many times has a wage structure and dont't think Pog deserved to change that... If it was Clint though...

We have some principles and I think sticking to them has started paying results on and off the field (financial results).

So the bottom line is if we wanted to keep Pog, AJ, BZ and others players of that calibre we could... Just we don't need them! Their return is poor for the investment required.

I have no problem with the fact that AJ is 31, it doesn't really matter though. He hasn't been prolific since he was at Palace which was years ago, so age doesn't really come into it, especially when you consider his glass knees and the fact he hasn't managed more than 20 league appearances for a few seasons.

Reading have taken ONE player because we gave him to them. I doubt even Sparkles would be stupid enough to pay Pogrebnyak 65k per week, although he did offer Kieron Dire a contract extension after only two minutes of football from him this season so anything is possible <laugh>

Putting in an offer for Giroud doesn't mean you're ambitious. He was never going to join you over Arsenal (who would?) so the offer wasn't meant as serious, it was placed so that your equally deluded chairman can satisfy QPR's moronic fanbase by saying OOH LOOK AT US WE PUT IN AN OFFER FOR THIS GUY (even though you haven't a chance in hell of signing him)

AJ or Petric? I know who I'd choose every time, and if anybody claims they would prefer AJ, they're lying.

I think people are getting mixed up between 'ambition' and 'willingness to pay stupid money for someone that doesn't deserve it'. Fulham are in a healthy financial position thanks to the fact we don't pay ridiculous wages and I can't for the life of me see why any club would break their salary cap for a player of Pog's ability. It could have been said that Portsmouth were 'ambitious' when they were lumping out millions and millions on players, and it did get them into the top ten but look at where they are now. Fulham did better than Pompey through sensible spending. If Reading fans want to think they're bigger than us because they were dumb enough to give Pog 65k a week, let them off.

And you know this how? Jol and Mr.Ambition been telling you? If you're saying it's one signing replacing a player then it looks a lot more like Petric is replacing AJ on our bench.... vast improvement!

    Agreed Ireland.

We are still in for Yilmaz along with Tottenham to be our main striker next season. Petric has scored more goals, is an international and is on less wages than AJ. How does AJ improve so much on Campbell?

    It's not an argument its a debate/discussion.

how many times do you need to be told? Pog is going to be on 30K a week at Reading. They don't have the funds or backing for 65K. Even the new Russian is only worth about £350-400M. thats why they are getting in players from the Championship or free's. I know you don't like the fact that he chose them over Fulham but that's life. <ok>

Finally TF has put his money where his mouth is. Even if we brought in some under achievers he paid the money. be deluded or jealous if you think that our board arn't moving us forward as a club.

Pog's wages have been officially announced at being 65k on a four year contract, Fulham offered him somewhere between 30 and 35k which he was unable to accept as his agent has described Reading's offer as 'significantly more'. Hence he went for the money. Not that I blame him, I'd sign a contract that paid me more than twice as much too. But Reading fans are misunderstanding the reasons as to why Pog rejected us and signed for them. He wasn't attracted to their ambition or the quality of their team, but their new owners money.

His agent has even admitted it.
