According to legendary rock journalist John Robb (who was the gig announcer too).. oh and we also had Mick Jones' Justice Tonight band (for the Hillsborough 96), The Farm & Eric Cantona and that was just the warm-up.. so all you nay-sayers and doubters.. who's laughing now?? In fact I'm still buzzing.. http://louderthanwar.com/stone-roses-lyon-live-review/ as a footnote, I was in the second-row right in front of Ian Brown, during "Ten Storey Love Song" I gave him the thumbs up & he gave me it back.. lovely memory to cherish.. oh and they played the full eponymous first album - the first time they've played EVERY TRACK.. f***ing tops..
I'm huge fan. Glad you had a cracking time I wish they'd would play more of The Second Coming tracks, I'd love to hear Reni drumming live on Daybreak, Breaking Into Heaven and Tears. Also I can't believe they haven't played Elephant Stone
they didn't do Daybreak, cool song isn't it? but it's the mark of a great band that they didn't produce many bad tracks.. ok, in the early days, there were some rough-edged ones (see Garage Flower) but if Second Coming came out now, it would go platinum.. if you can do a full set on 2 albums..fact is many b-sides were fantastic... at the end they were all hugging each other, as the report says, there wasn't an encore - you didn't need it.. This is the One followed by I am the Ressurrection.. boom... I said to my friend afters, I think i'll retire from gigs now, cos you can't beat that.. believe me I've seen a load of gigs.. might come out of retirement for Radiohead in september, we'll see, never say never..
****ing disgrace to their name. And what the fook does John Robb know? Goldblade were ace werent they....?
Going in morning cant wait at least this time i will remember it .Cause spike island i was a ****ing mess
John Robb is a Manc who wrote a book on them- no doubt every gig they do is the best ever, in that self-promoting self-aggrandising Manc way they have there.
For me Daybreak is Reni's best drumming, unbelieveable skills. Totally makes that record. I think the reason Garange Flower wasn't great was because the band was right(No Mani and Pete Gardner and Andy Couzins where still in the band). The producer wasn't the right one ethier. Look how I Wanna Be Adored and This Is The One changed with the right personal They're gems Like All Across The Sands, Going Down, The Hardest Thing In The World, Elephant Stone and most of the Second Coming they haven't been aired. Concidering they only released two offical albums, there back catalgue is amazing How are they? I'm sure you're not a professional footballer, but I'm sure you comment about City and other footballing matters. What does it matter if his band was crap?
Is that aimed at me? They're my favourite band of all time and I believed every word they ever said and what they stood for. So when Ian Brown said "Ive got more chance of reforming the Happy Mondays" I believed him. I fail to see how anyone who truly loved them can stand in a field, hear him sing "the past was yours the future is mine, you're all out of time" and not be hit by the sudden, clunking irony. If Lydon hadnt already said it the most appropriate way to end the shows would be to ask "Ever feel like you've been cheated?"
I can understand your feelings, but is a good thing people like me can see them(I was 16 months old when The Stone Roses Album came out and seven when The Second Coming came out) Get the chance to see them. Will you change your mind if/when they release new material?
No, some things are meant to end at the most beautiful time. I remember them in my head as the coolest fookers who ever walked the earth, for Christ's sake they even changed how WE walked. Has any other band managed that? I dont want to see them as old men desperately clinging to what they did 20 years ago just for a quick payday.
A kid I was in basic training with thought it was I Wanna Be a Dog and that's what he used to sing whilst ironing his kit. He was a proper dick splash. And I do mean proper.
"Here we are, here it is, here we go." http://www.itv.com/news/2012-06-30/stone-roses-light-up-the-stage-in-comeback-gig/
We've had the Pixies. We've got the Stone Roses. Who next for a reunion? The Smiths? Party Hull's fingers are crossed.
Why would you want that? Seriously - i am not being rhetorical. What could possibly be enjoyable about watching a lead singer who absolutely despises his rhythm section on stage for an hour and a half to line all their pockets? For me it is LITERALLY the only thing that could be worse than the Roses reforming and if it ever happens I would lose my faith in everything that music possibly stand for. Thankfully I'm 99.999999% sure it never would, cos frankly Morriseey and Marr dont need the money and despite what anyone says that is the only ever driving force.
