i heard about this takeover Roo..it was on twitter that i was sent a link.....some Russian or Kuwaiti and was to be completed as early as next week..now im not believing this just saying i have heard the same thing...and to be honest if Rafa is staying and he is on 44k and the Sig is on 70k then id be knocking on the chairman's door and asking why...which makes me believe further that VDV could be on his way.

it's probably unlikey, but I was always under the impression that 70k was towards the top of our wage cap? So to sign Sig on that money straight away, does seem strange. I'm not sure about rafa's wages, that's what i seem to remember reading somewhere, but I could have got that confused with someone else.

there's also been reports of 32m for Moutinho. again, could well be paper bollocks... but would they even write something THAT daft? we'd never spent 32m on someone. could we even afford to, or want to (regardless of selling modric)? why write something that was suck bollocks? perhaps there is some truth in it?

I'm sorry but the suggestion that he's going to be on £70k pw is ridiculous.
Bale reportedly just signed his new deal for £75k pw, so who believes that we're going to offer someone who doesn't look likely to start only £5k less?
I could be wrong, but this looks like someone who can't understand why he'd sign for us ahead of Liverpool putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 18.

Perhaps the player just looked at the players in his position that are already at the club and decided he fancied his chances better at Spurs?
Liverpool currently have Gerrard, Aquilani and Joe Cole available in that role, with Henderson, Shelvy and Pacheco waiting in the wings.
It looks likely that the Italian will leave, but that's still a lot of players fighting for places.
At Spurs he'd "only" have van der Vaart ahead of him, as things stand.

VDV would be a big loss, greater in many ways than Modric.

    32 mill for Moutinhio.....no way..its almost impossible...

i agree with Spurf...VDV is our true Marquee player with the history to go with it...we sell him and we sell away alot of class and prestige.

    well said spurf.

What Guti's supposedly said about Modric not being good enough, is hilarious. "David Silva is twice the player". "I don't think he's done enough to play for Real Madrid". "you see flashes of the quality in his boots."

Other that the bit about Silva being twice the player (which is a massive exaggeration), I tend to agree. Modric can go missing in games and sometimes looks clueless. With Rafa, you know there's always a moment of magic he could pull out of the bag, at any moment.

I just hope his gob doesn't stop real paying £40mill!

News is that Daddy has taken his credit card away from us, no more big spending, no ore big wages, will make it very hard to compete.

Well other than the media (obviously never true) saying we were oinly offering half of what you were offering in wages, it's mainly that it is very bizarre that he would be about to follow Rodgers to us for him to suddenly go to you - I admit that your'e ahead of us, but not enough for him to put up his middle finger to a guy he admired enough to follow out from Swansea unless he was getting a much better offer financially. The other reason could be the fact that he would get first team football with you, but then again, only IF you were to sell VDV, who would get into the squad ahead of sig atm.

That doesn't mention what your offer to him was, though.
If you're right about the spending cuts at Anfield, then you might have offered him £20k pw, which we doubled to £40k.

I read a report somewhere that Sigurdsson's supposed to be a Man Utd fan.
Signing for Liverpool would virtually write off any chance of him ever joining that mob, so perhaps that influenced his thinking?
He has been touted as a professional and extremely ambitious player, so maybe he's considering the long game?

your right in footballing terms, potential etc etc...we are similar as things stand...and even wages its still baffling to see him choose us over you...if its true that you offered him half of what we did then you must have offered him around 20k..i dont think the Sig will be our highest earner....and if you offered so little then im not surprised..because in todays climate he is about a 40k a week player i reckon....dont think it is anything to do with game time...he will have to earn it.

Oh yea, I'm not saying that you've offered him 70£k, just that rumours are that it's roughly double what we have offered. AS for being a professional, he hasn't conducted himself that well with all his blabbing on twitter, and last minute decisions, it's Hazard all over again, as if there weren't enough primadonna's in football as it is.

If we have offered him 20/30 then frankly it's embarrassing and we deserve to miss out on signing him. Lord knows what the owners are thinking. n'gog was on £70k FFS, as If Sig would take £20k with the likes of Gerrard etc earning 7x his salary

You'd assume that £20k pw for a non-first XI player wasn't a bad offer though, Sir Red.
Swansea would struggle to match that and he's only 22, so he'd have plenty of time to improve his wages.
With no other offers on the table, I'm sure that he would've taken it, especially with Rodgers there already.

I didn't notice his Twittering (is that right?).
    What did he say?

Tweeting I think. Yea you'd assume but we've overpaid for years so now everyone coming to us expects inflated salaries when they sign for us, plus in comparison to City/Chelsea wages it's nothing.

Essentially Liverpool have money available, but transfers must be reasonable, wages must be reasonable.

We've had a huge problem over the past three regimes of deadwood on big wages. Our new (ish) owners are pure businessmen - they're streamlining I suppose.

Gylfi is a decent player, but really shouldn't be on more than 30-40k a week (MAX) and if he doesn't want that at Liverpool (even though it's probably twice what he'd agreed to with Swansea) he can pish off frankly.

SSN are just reporting that the deal is done, medical has been passed, etc. no mention of wages, though. It also looks like it's definitely AVB, To be announced after July 1st.
