What irks me is when people from those areas partake in their favourite pastime of slating Hull - which I defy anyone to deny that a huge percentage do -and then where do they go for their nights out, to shop, to the cinema, to watch sport, to visit leisure centres.....? You get my point.

Agreed, especially when the people doing the slagging are actually from Hull and moved for the snob factor.

I fell out with a close friend at a family gathering when a group from villages were really slagging people from Hull off. I simply sat and pointed out what they did (or didn't do) for an income, where they did it and their level of educational achievment and then pointed out the many disfuntional elements of their family.

Obviously I wasn't allowed to be offended at their comments.

Yes i do. I ve always been a Cottingham(born) - Willerby(kid) - Ferriby - Cottingham again person. It also irks me about the rubbish stated about HULL. Ive been all over the Uk more times than i care to mention. I would place Hull way above parts of London - Manchester - Liverpool - Glasgow - Newcastle - Birmingham to name but a few.

All areas have good and bad. Hull is alot better than people outside think. Ignorance is bliss they say. Southerners are very ignorant towards anything north of Watford gap in my experience.

Personally, what I say to people is obviously I dont think Hull is the best place in the world otherwise I'd live there myself. I chose to move away and I would never deny that, however it is certainly not as bad as is made out. Ive been to much, much worse places of which Bratfud would always be top. And it wasnt a fleeting visit, I worked there for years - truly horrific.

I cannot deny there are some proper silly ****s out in the 'villages'. Saying that there are some proper silly ****s in Hull as well.

I live here but don't have any real mates, mere acquaintances. I don't get involved with anything like the open gardens or street parties.
    **** that for a lark.
I've pulled up a few people for making comments about something being 'council' or for slagging off people from East Hull and Bransholme particularly.
I find the people who come out with these type of comments are deluded muppets who think they've made it in life.

Saying that I like living where I do and can't see me moving back to Hull.
I reckon I'll move to Beverley when my kids have flown the nest.

Good man, it's nice to know that we are being defended from snide comments by the village idiots you deserve a patty and chips for that. I'm afraid they don't take too kindly to new residents in Beverley though so watch out ;)

I am Hull born and bred and never lived outside the boundaries.

I did, however, attend an East Riding school.

For that I am a traitor.

Born and bred in Hull, always lived in Hull, but like NFU, I'll be moving once the kids find somewhere for themselves.

    Yes you are.

I did exactly the same, but as it was still Humberside when I started it doesn't count. (and it was so I was at a school with a VIth Form)
