Jerel, he was a celtic fan as a boy. Celtic's 'english team' are scum. Ergo .... if you're a scum fan & offered a berth at Leeds, you keep your gob shut. If you get transferred to scum, you can say anything you like, as you're in heaven. Now just reverse that & you'll understand his position. True hero - scored in 3 world cups for Scotland. How many players have done that for england?
Ergo it makes sense why both sets of fans are such massive twats! If you apply that logic consistently, why should he want to come back and why should he be accepted back here? He shat on our doorstep and he's not welcome back. It's his prerogative, but we can't just welcome him back in without having him clean it up first. I have no idea. I don't really care that much about the national team; it's mainly followed by the fans of very small clubs who have no glories of their own to celebrate.
I still really don't care about one quote... Face it there are 100's of United's in football, two Manchester's, but no matter what anyone else may say there is and will only ever be one Leeds...! The largest city in Europe with just one team....!
I agree with you about your Jordan comments, he is a scum twat Smith however I don't see why you continue to dislike him. I don't want him back at the club because I don't think hes a good enough footballer anymore but he did what was in the club's best interests unlike some of the same time, *cough* Kewell *cough* Anyway back to the point, Jordan is a **** and I don't want him anywhere near the club. And club's interests over country's
I can safely state that I am sure that no Scottish player has ever scored in 3 world cups for England and that no English players have ever scored in 3 world cups for Scotland.
Marseille and Paris are two immediate ones that spring to mind which are bigger one-club cities. I'm sure there are at least half a dozen more across the Continent. But pedantry aside, your point is right, we deserve a lot more respect than he gave us with that silly comment making it look like his move was to get away from a club that meant nothing to him. For that, let him be permanently ****ed in the off direction. Well the Smith stuff's been done to death - my opinion is that there was a solid pattern of disrespectful behaviour from him towards Leeds fans, and a visible happiness at engineering his move to scum. Others say otherwise. His third division career from here on in means he'll never come to Elland Road again to be in a position to divide the fans, so I suppose he doesn't need discussing any further. All the rest, I say well said.
Paris and Marseille both have 2 teams, it's just both the "other" teams are pretty ****, playing in the equivalent of League 1 and the Conference respectively.
I do not think you will find any one club city larger than Leeds in the EU. We are unique and that's why it does not matter about the "United" as "We are Leeds"
I saw him make his debut for Leeds,we made him,he went to Manure,he **** the nest,**** off Jordan you are not welcome here
We blew it in the Seventies just like we did again in the Naughties. I think it comes down to the fans personalities personally, the passion at Leeds is infectious but so is pessimism sometimes. Players like Charles, Jordan, Woodgate etc were all sold by different boards over the years, but we then we blamed the player for leaving..?
If you want to go to non-League levels, Leeds is a four-club city in football terms (United, Guiseley, Farsley, Garforth). So if you have a draw a line to determine what constitutes a 'one-club city', it should probably be on the grounds of whether the smaller team(s) are professional or not. In Leeds' and Marseille's case, they're not. So Marseille is a bigger one-club city. As are Cologne, Naples and Amsterdam. We do have the biggest catchment area in England though, in my opinion.
Like you Farsley, I remember Jordan's breakthrough into what was then the best club side in Europe, and he used to get horrendous abuse from the Leeds fans- ****ing useless twat, albeit a young player surrounded by legendary superstars. **** off Jordan, don't ever return, was the general gist when he left, and I personally hold the same view now. His derogatory comments towards Leeds United are unforgivable.
Out of interest, is there a Scottish side who have Leeds as their 'English team'? I've heard that there's links with someone fairly inconspicuous like Falkirk?
Apart from Celtic/scum & Rangers/Chelski, I've never heard of any other close associations, but then I've been down here for 22 years, so things may have changed. Simon, Boab, Strach - as residents, surely you're more qualified to fill us in than me these days?
Hearts and Everton appear to have some sort of flirt-off going on as well. You'd have thought Leeds and Celtic would make more sense than scum what with the biggest ever European crowd being for that fixture, the numerous player links and big Leeds presence in Ireland. But then again, there's a big Leeds-Rangers/'no surrender to the IRA' theme as well. Hence why the Kop used to apparently sing 'Celtic... Rangers', I suppose?
