the Kensil Rise gas works site has also been suggested. I read an article about that team that plays in red in Liverpool who are getting the council to compulsory purchase houses so they can redevelop Anfield. at first i thought why cant the LBH&F do the same. Then it came to me. a house in scouse land is worth £50 while ones in Loftus and Elleslie Roads cost a fortune. The Unigate site sounds the best option perhaps followed by the Kensil Rise gas works. Do you think they would demolish the WCE for us?
This is a very old rumour so Im not getting excited and i thought it had already been sold as they only offered it to us for a stupid price. However I hope hes got proper info rather than just hearing stuff in the pub.
I thought we lost out on this site a while back and someone else bought it? Anyway it's about time we had another Stadium thread. I cant wait to read all the 'We don't need a 45K ground when we only get 18K at LR' and 'We wont fill it' posts. I am glad those type of posters aren't running our club?
Those people are dumb beyond belief, once our att gets to 17k, you cant buy 2 seats together, the only choices are restricted views and anyone over 5ft can find it painful if they are sat next to a lard ass. I wouldnt bother going if i had to sit in the upper loft or ellerslie.
Agree flyer the amount of times last season i could not take mates along to games. It all means money lost for us and TF knows that Prem football brings in punters, just ask Fulham. If people think that Fulham can go from 3K to 25K and QPR cant go from 18K to 30K+ they are talking rubbish. Football has moved on and we don't need to be left behind. We wasted 15yrs by going down, 15 years of growth.
I doubt it. 12 posts in a year. He said this 10 months ago.... Icy fingers down my spine etc....zzzzzzzzz It used to happen with our last ITK. Somebody off another board links an "interesting" story on here and, before you know it, worthy, and I mean genuinely worthy, threads get washed away in all the b/s. Who's given you nothing to share on here in 13 turbulent months? I'll carry on throwing chicken bones in the air.
Beard said officially a couple of weeks back that a new stadium was some years down the line. Unless something strange has happened this is the usual bollocks.
Unless he was simply calming us down by dampening down expectations. The club would look bloody foolish if they announced a deal before contracts have been exchanged and then it didn't happen.
Whilst this is no exact science, and i am not an architect, looking at the footprint of the site on the maps - is the unigate site really big enough to build a ground/entertainment complex? Unless the really are going to be building steep and tall!?
Brentford moving to a new ground. ============================= CLUB BUYS LIONEL ROAD SITE Posted on: Thu 28 Jun 2012 Brentford Football Club's plan to move to a new community stadium took a massive step forward today, Thursday June 28, when the Club bought a 7.6 acre site in Lionel Road, Brentford, from Barratt Homes who had originally acquired the site in January 2008, for a development in partnership with the club. The Club is planning to build a 15,000 capacity stadium on the land with the option of extending to 20,000 seats at a later stage. The stadium will also provide a new home for the award winning charity the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust. In addition there will be some residential property built on the site and on Brentford's existing ground at Griffin Park which will be used for family housing once the new stadium is completed. The land, bought for an undisclosed price, was paid for by long term Bees supporter Matthew Benham, who at the same time completed a deal to buy Bees United's 60 per cent shareholding in the club - agreed last week - and now owns 96 per cent of Brentford FC. Greg Dyke Brentford FC Chairman Greg Dyke said: "This is brilliant news for the club and it's now full steam ahead for a new stadium. "We will be submitting plans for the new development to Hounslow Council within the next year and our ambition is to move into the new stadium in time for the start of the 2016/17 season. "This would not have been possible without Matthew Benham and all Bees fans should be grateful for the financial support he has given the club in recent years. "Hopefully by the time we move into the new ground we will already be a Championship club. "The journey to Lionel Road has been a long and, at times, frustrating one but hopefully it is now coming to fruition. "I said in the annual report that I believed it would happen in my lifetime and it now looks very likely!" Matthew Benham2_320 New club owner Matthew Benham said: "I am delighted that we have been able to reach an agreement with Barratt Homes and take control of the land at Lionel Road. "The Club can now get on with preparing plans for an exciting new community stadium that will provide a great boost in terms of much needed new homes and jobs in Brentford." The site, which is currently occupied by industrial tenants and used mainly for waste transfer, is located between Kew Bridge station and the elevated M4 motorway close to Chiswick roundabout. The Club has been working closely with Hounslow Council for many years to achieve a satisfactory long term solution to the Club's need for a modern stadium. On hearing the news, the Council Leader, Councillor Jagdish Sharma said: "This is good news for Brentford and the borough as a whole. "The Lionel Road project will deliver significant community benefits so Hounslow Council will continue to support the Football Club in its efforts to develop a modern stadium and ensure the continuation of its excellent work in the community. "It is also a win-win that in tough economic times, the plan will also provide new homes and jobs. "We have been proactive in supporting the club's ambitions because we too are loyal supporters - and long may that continue." The project to relocate to Lionel Road has previously received backing from Boris Johnson who expressed his support in a letter to the Brentford Chairman, Greg Dyke, shortly before his election as London Mayor. http://www.brentfordfc.co.uk/page/LatestNews/0,,10421~2826047,00.html
