Nah. . . they need an ambitious young manager in my book. Someone like, oh, I don't know, what's the QPR guy's name again?

With you on this one Bandit,I believe this transfer is not being instigated by
the scouting staff, but by our physio who requires a permanent resident following AJ departure

What everyone else said - while Bentley once looked like a great prospect, there's no reason to believe he's about to pull himself out of the slough of mediocrity he's wallowed in for the past few years. He could be brilliant, but is more likely to be a waste of time and money.

I'd be inclined to say that at a club of our size where he is something of a big fish in a small pond, he could prove to be useful as he was at Blackburn, but he has spent the past two years on loan at Birmingham and West Ham in the Championship, neither of which were persuaded to offer him a permanent deal. Can't see this happening somehow.

From what I've seen Bentley has a few good games a season, the reset of the time he is a luxury
    and a waste of space.

I think he would be a small fish at our club- I'd put Davies in ahead of him. In terms of achievements - Bentley's done bugger all. One to stay away from imo.

A few years ago Bentley would have been useful. Not any more...

Can see Simon Davies stepping in for Danny's role... Think Jol tried it a couple of times last year before he got injured.

    Bloody good point, that.

Bentley is like Steven Ireland; part of me would love to sign them, because if they ever realised the potential they showed years ago they'd be superb for us. But the reality is they're pants and probably always will be.

Agree witheveryone about Bentley. He's what 28 and for that age hasn't really played much at the top level, given his potential - "the new Beckham" wasn't he at one time. The attachment to the rumour is that it would be a loan but given the apathy in his performances while on loan to Birmingham, no thanks. As well as injury problems, I think you can add attitude.

I think for the first time we are universally agreed on Bentley. If he is brought in as a direct replacement for Dempsey I will be very disappointed.

Further confirmation that we are chasing free agent Sivok. The reason for posting what is after all 'old' news', is that you might enjoy the third paragraph in the article - which I'd suggest is best discussed in that other thread, if at all.

    Clint Dempsey

The journalist are back on his trail. I won't put in links because you have probably seen all the headlines already; "Liverpool Considering £10m Swoop", "Spursl and Newcastle Ready to bid £14m" etc. My purpose in posting is a tidbit going back to this month 3 years ago when the press were reporting that Dempsey (here he is in 2009 Dempsey 2nd June 2009.jpg was stalling on an offer from the Club to sign a new contact with one year left on his existing one. The gist of the story was -

"Fulham midfielder and USA star Clint Dempsey has been linked to a move to Goodison after reportedly failing to agree a new deal at Fulham. Dempsey's contract expires at the end of next season, but, according to The Sun he has rejected Fulham's latest offer of an extension, fueling speculation that he could be on his way out.

Everton are ready to offer around £4million for him, a figure that Fulham will have to seriously consider, as they risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next season. In addition, the Toffees will offer him wages of £37,000 a week, £12,000 more than he currently earns.

Dempsey has come into the spotlight in recent times for his exploits at the Confederations Cup, where he scored three goals, including one during the semi-final and final. He was awarded the Bronze Ball, given to the third best player in the tournament."

All very deja vu, so will history repeat itself ? I don't think so.
