"Hi everyone. Probably should have sent this earlier but hey! Yes, lamp has closed. I am sorry to anyone i have let down or disappointed. We are incredibly proud of what we were and what we stood for and I hope we have a place in your hearts. Please don't think we gave up without a fight, we have run the venue on a shoe-string for as long as I can remember...unfortunately we just couldn't make the bank share in our belief and they have decided to call it a day. I personally want to apologise to all the promoters who had events booked, I am deeply sorry for what has happened, it really was a surprise and I will do what I can to find alternative venues. I also want to say a MASSIVE MASSIVE thank you for the support of all you loyal 'Lamp Heads' over the years, it's been an amazing journey and a pretty ****ing good party and the venue would have closed years ago without your support and enthusiasm. When we rocked, we really rocked! I am gutted to have let you down! Finally, and most importantly, I want to give my biggest thanks to all the staff that have made lamp the venue it has been over the last 14 years! It was nothing without you. You have always been the most important part of lamp, the thing that made it unique! So many of you number amongst my very closest friends in the world and you all know who you are! Thank you for letting me be a part of something this special. In particular I would like to thank tommy, spanner, lizzie, Sam, Ben the sparky, Carl, Carla and Kaisha for enduring lamp (and me) for the last 12 months in very uncertain times, wasn't easy on any of us! Love you all so much. Take care, good lives, good luck, keep music alive. Cheers, gav.. RIP LAMP x"

Sad to see that one of the few remaining venues in Hull that offers decent live music and something a bit different has closed. It's a tough time in general for boozers right now, but it saddens me that the soulless dives you find in town remain open and a place like Lamp falls by the wayside.

Very sad , played a lot of gigs there over the past couple of years and some great memories of the place. Lets hope somebody buys it and puts a bit of money in to it (very unlikely though)

    R.I.P. LAMP <wah>

Sad and very much a sad reflection of the times we now live in. Maybe though just a lottery win away from a grand re-opening. :1980_boogie_down:

I never got the opportunity of going there unfortunately, but I know people who did and who thought it was great. But I can't help thinking of this...

Gutted. Went there on a first date once - it went surprisingly well too. Decent place, such a shame.

Gutted. How many places are there where new local bands can strut their stuff now? Adelphi? Fruit?

Come to think of it, is Adelphi still open? I haven't heard much about it recently.

The Adelphi is still open, you can pop down tonight and see The Chapman Family live for a mere £5.

Was Dave Mays no longer involved at The Lamp when it closed?

I believe Gav, who made the above statement, was originally the manager and bought it off Dave Mays a number of years ago. Think Dave owns Fruit as well as Welly?

He does have the Welly and Fruit, I thought I remembered him saying he'd flogged the lamp, but I wasn't sure.

Yeah Im a pedant but something cant be 'the most unique'. It's either unique or it isnt.
