HE'S a king among men in his homeland and it seems the Danes' love of Michael Laudrup has sparked a huge interest in Swansea.

More than a million people in Denmark — almost a fifth of the country's population — tuned in to watch a TV programme about the city, the Swans and its new manager screened before a Euro 2012 match. Mumbles, Singleton Park and Dylan Thomas Square were among the locations included on Danish TV programme DR Sporten before Portugal's quarter-final against the Czech Republic. The Danish broadcasters visited Swansea to cover the appointment of national hero Michael Laudrup as the new manager of the Swans.

Holger Rasmussen, the DR Sporten journalist who visited Swansea, said: "You can't believe how famous Laudrup is in Denmark — he's as close as you can get to the Danish Royal Family. "Everybody knows his name and picture, and I'm sure there will be a lot of Swansea City FC supporters in Denmark in the season to come. "Laudrup's every move will be followed and many Danish newspapers will cover Swansea City's games. "And I guess you'll also see a lot of Danes going to Swansea and other Premier League cities to follow Laudrup's new team in person if they can get tickets. "I'm sure I'll go back to Swansea as a tourist one day too."

Swansea Council said it was further evidence of how Premier League status was putting Swansea on the international map. Nick Bradley, Swansea Council's cabinet member for regeneration, said: "The Premier League is arguably the best of its kind and that means it attracts viewers from all corners of the world. "But this isn't just great news for the Swans as a football club. "It's also great news for Swansea Bay because it will raise our profile as a visitor destination and that will hopefully encourage more and more people to come here and spend money in the local economy. I've been to Nigeria several times over the past few years and it's amazing the number of people there who have now heard of Swansea just because of the city's Premier League status.

"Michael Laudrup's profile in Denmark and beyond means there's going to be heightened interest in Swansea Bay when the new season kicks off and we'll make every effort to ensure the whole area continues to benefit." -EP

I wonder if the Dane's have a lucky shirt colour ;)

I wouldn't mind seeing the Swans's following being boosted by a few Danish girls clad in a Swans shirt - would beat a Malaysian girl or boy (never am sure lol) but that may be a personal preference!

Screened before a Euro game suggests most weren't tuning in for Laudrup. Nice coverage though.

Like the Foreign Legion, the Jack Army grows .... it's going to be even tougher to get tickets to matches.

Bring back the Hummel gear from the early 80's the Danish company would make a killing with laudrup as our manager, we would be all danes 2nd favourite team and they will all be wearing swans hummel tops and drinking calsberg special brew ...love it <laugh>

we will be all wearing clogs next.<laugh> ...We have a healthy fan club in holland and denmark as it is but this will boost our fan club even further. we probably have more malaysians in swansea shirts as they dont care about lower league clubs and only premiership clubs. I actually took ten old swans shirts to America a couple of years back and gave them away to youngsters who i saw playing football......spread the gospel i say there is nothing better spotting a swans shirt in a foreign land.....
