I only listen to R5 when I am in the car on match days, so I have not listened for a while tbh!

NZ, I don't think that there would as there are few true Jersey people on the island (the definition of a true Jersey person is that they, both parents and all 4 grandparents were born here). Interesting to note that the politician speaking out is Sir Philip Bailhache as the very fact that he was standing for election was a bit controversial as he is also the Bailiff and it was thought that the head of the legal system shouldn't be part of the elected body that makes the laws.

One thing independence would do is lose any chance of those from Jersey going to UK universities having their fees reduced - at the moment we are charged the same as those from places like the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar. This is despite the fact that if anyone from Jersey wants to join the Forces it has to be the British ones. This University issue could mean that pie doesn't get into the Uni he would like to because of it. Yes, we are self-governing with our own laws (although there are some laws which we don't have one of our own where we use the one for England and Wales) and our own taxes which are low, but in terms of the ones imposed of us who actually live here in normal work are fair based on the fact that the cost of living is generally higher here than the UK - there was a big fuss a few years ago when GST was added (our version of VAT), initially 2.5%, now 5% but not because of the introduction of it, but the fact that it applies to everything including the items that are zero rated or exempt in the UK.

Evening all. Just got back from my first week at Martial arts in almost a month and i have to say it was great to be back. The fist thing i come across when i turn the tv on, is The Strange Case of the Law on BBC 4. It was fantastic. A great insight to the development of the law to what we know it to be today. This is followed by one of my all time favourite shows; Garrow's Law. It will be a great night for me!!

i can't stand the commentaries on R5...they go off on the hugest tangent and it's impossible to know what's going on on the pitch. Much to w_y's disgust, i listen to TalkSport..they actually relate what's happening, kick by kick, and make really incisive comments. That is..if i'm in the car...and if i'm not recording the match!

Night night all, time to tuck under the covers, see you tomorrow :)

Morning all from a overcast Bandit Country. WFH today as I have a visit to the dentist for filling - still it is the lovely Tanya doing the filling, so I am in good hands!

Game got better last night as Spain seemed to wake up in the second half....looking forward to the game tonight.

H - It's the concept of TalkShite that gets on my goat. Get a few WUM's i.e. Durham, Cascarino, Brazil, Gough, Quinn to spout off crap and then open the phone lines - they keep callers on the lines for ages whilst charging them a fortune. Total rip-off...

Morning all, very warm already and it will be difficult to do much work this afternoon.

The hot news here is that three men were pulled in when the police noticed three vans that appeared to be overloaded. Investigating their load they discover 9.5 tonnes of garlic in the vans, enough to have filled nine vans that size. It seems that the load was on route from Spain to Hungary, but the drivers were unable to provide proof that they owned it. The garlic has been confiscated, and each man charged with driving a vehicle that was 80% overload. If the cargo is found to be stolen, then the police could be pressing further charges.

Morning all. Its very hot here already!! I am already in the doghouse as i did not want to deliver the parcels as i have lots to be doing at home (which mum asked me to do) and i want to get that done rather than have it dragging out all week.

I like calling 3 Counties, its nice to listen, but its even better to have your say. Its always good to hear what others think and a lot of the time they pick up on incidents you miss or cant see.

Afternoon all from a sunny Borehamwood, just waiting for the rain it's sure to come.

Thanks for the coffe Ak also for the info on the Iceland Parliament. I thought our elections were bad enough but it must take for ever to work out who has been elected and what party will run the country. Does a party ever have a clear majority or is it usually coalitions that run Iceland?

We used to have only 52 seats in our parliament with an upper house but no party has ever had a majority of seats. We do have a high number of registered voters that go and mark the card and we get good government because the groups have to act responsibly, most of the time.

I'm sure we would have a better government if people actually bothered to vote. We had this in the trade unions back in the 60's when I started working (Before my later job which has no Union). The only people that bothered to turn up to meetings was the Militant members, so when it came to elections it was only people at the meetings who could vote for Leader, Treasurer etc so they used to vote themselves into office. All was okay until they did something the majority did not want then all they could do was complain. Oneof the major faults in this country is complacency.

Afternoon all - very hot & humid in bandit country. Luckily Mrs W_Y got shot of her Barclay shares a few years ago - just when will these shysters learn and I wonder how many more scandels there are to come. I would love to get back to the days of the Building Societies and Banks investing in local people...

Britain's Andy Murray looks reasonably comfortable. We'll have to wait until next week for him to revert to being Scottish methinks.

I've got mixed feelings about the proposed London Grand Prix. For all the faults with an overcrowded public transport system, overpriced fast food chains everywhere and so on, London does have some great sights along the proposed route. But am I the only one who wouldn't mind seeing a tyre land on the palace balcony, or a piece of carbon fiber crash through a parliament window (provided that nobody got hurt in the process and the FIA had to foot the bill for any damage)?
