Given the amount of space behind the Anfield Road end, I wonder if they've considered MASSIVELY extending this to become the new Kop?

Page, I think JH is trying to say that the re-development that he envisages would have to be both facilitated by the Council who could also then use land round the stadium to provide badly needed facilities for the local community. If you like, in the same way that the developers of Liverpool 1 were asisted.

The main stand is the one most in need though surely <ok> plus I'm pretty sure the row of houses behind the main stand have already been CP'd (I may be wrong but will do some research).

  7. We should have retracting sits (like a retracting roof) so people can watch the game from a birds eye view, got to be a couple of thousand seats in it...<whistle>

Sorry, but did everyone read the 1-5 parts of that link rather than just the final blog? I didn't the first time but after reading responses here I went back to see how they'd reached their conclusions.

They seem to go into great detail over all these refurbishment issues; going through the options of the actual ground/stands & then further development of the surrounding area; which as has been stated here is more the responsibility of the LG but does make interesting proposals about how both LFC and EFC could partner the council and investors to become a true "football quarter" of the city and how it could be phased so that overall completion wasn't necessarily needed.

Now it's not my city so I can't call bullshit on any of the proposals but they seem to be fairly open about the pitfalls of the different Stand options etc.

I know it's all a bit long winded in places but I like the detail because it tells me someone actually thought it all the way through. There are plenty of diagrams and zonal maps that may mean more to you lot than me.

Take a look if you haven't already.

Yea the whole football quarter thing is intriguing. I live in the city and the area does need massive redevelopment. To an extent Liverpool as a city is defined by football - we love it. Blue and Red alike. But it would take a huge amount of effort and the parties would need to work together closer than ever before (Residents, both clubs, Investors, Council, Government, Transport etc) to have a chance of success.

But I could see it working, capture the fans earlier, feed them, water them, sell to them and prolong the match experience. I know when I go the match I'm in and out of the area as fast as possible only because it's not set up for thousands of people to eat, drink and be merry!

I wonder when we will understand the long term plan - it seems to have been a big elephant shaped stadium in the room for ages now...

I read the vast majority of it DF (skimmed would probably be more accurate) but all that hinges on a council that is efficient and forward looking. The "football quarter" has been an idea on the table for a long time now, the first time I heard it mentioned was early 90s when the all seaters were being done originally. The whole proposal would take hard work and vision from LCC...that won't happen....hence why they felt giving (practically) LFC half of the local public park was a more suitable option. Less effort for them with a few brown envelopes flying about as an added bonus...allegedly <whistle>

I keep getting a sense from locals on here at least that LCC is badly run. Is this just typical "everyone thinks their councils crap" stuff or is there specific endemic problems with LCC

I read a story about £107 mill in collected council tax at a time when the council were having to make 90m cuts but I tend to think the usual about figures being thrown around: that they are usually Labour & Tory tit for Tat.

What pressure could be realistically brought to bear on them to change their approach?

Its not so much about pressure DF, more about what size brown envelopes you deal in <whistle> no surprise that the only time the council have been especially helpful to LFC was when H&G were around...not that I'm suggesting anything underhand of course <laugh> basically the city has been run by ****ers for decades <ok>

It seems like the pot is coming towards the boil with both sides (club and council) making statements.

Yep,Anderson wouldn't put his neck on the line if he wasn't confident of a final decision soon.

"Lord" Anderson <doh> makes me cringe that he's a lord almost as much as it did when that crook David Henshaw got a bloody knighthood...for what? Holding back the city of Liverpools progress probably <laugh>

I guess Lord Joe will have more time to spend looking at the stadiums now his attempts to bulldoze Ringos house have been scuppered (by a few good people of this city who deserve lordships a lot more than that turd).

Here's hoping the council will do the right thing for once and start working with the clubs AND the local communities of Liverpool <ok>

    <laugh>

LFC's new stadium or Anfield refurb is Anderson's most high profile issue since he became Mayor and there's no way he'll allow FSG to **** his new found fame up.
