Lassana Diarra is an ambitious want for Queens Park Rangers.

Having secured their Premier League status on the final day of last season, Mark Hughes promised fans that Rangers would never again experience such struggles.

This may appear to be a bold boast, but the Welsh coach plans big changes in his squad and has already signed the Rob Green, Andy Johnson and Ryan Nelsen.

These three have arrived at Loftus Road on free transfers, but Hughes does has cash to spend and he intends to make quite the splash in luring Diarra.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Portsmouth midfielder is out of favour at Real Madrid, but QPR would have to find around £8million for the 27-year-old.

Diarra is in the final 12 months of his contract at the Bernabeu, and after making just 17 league appearances last season, is expected to move on in the coming weeks.

Not a chance. We don't need him anyway, we have Diakite and Faurlin.

IF that happened then Faurlin would be consigned to the bench. We can't bring in players of this calibre and price and not play them (SWP had a long eunuch too).

Perhaps it's the romantic in me but I'm not ready for that yet.

Get a youngster from the lower leagues or a cast off/free oldy from a top club as much needed back up in the middle of the park but now is the time to strengthen the first 11 in weaker areas (CB for example).

Better off spending money on a commanding Chris Samba type leader/CB in my humble opinion.

I would love to see Chris Samba in the Hoops. Commanding is an understatement. He is like Danny ****u but with skill! (No disrespect, fan of Danny - apart from allowing the Cardiff goal that kept us down that season!

Would be a massive signing, a bit weird that our CM would be so strong and the CN position be so weak.

Id really believe in a top half finish if we signed him and 2 CBs of a similar standard.

It shows our ambition that we are looking at players such as Diarra and Giroud, but until we've won something and have a new stadium, we just wont be able to attract players like this, unless we pay silly money which we just won't do.

Don't follow people saying we don't need more central defensive midfield players! We have Derry, but solid and canny as he is, he is getting to slow for the PL. We have, we think, Diakite. We have Ale, but will he be fully fit for the season start - doubtful. We have Barton maybe, but not until November and then perhaps MH and for sure most fans don't want him. We have Buz, but he is probably not good enough. Danger is for August we will only have Derry and Diakite - I thnink we definitely need more quality, young central defensive midfield players. Further forward, I also see a need for a good back up for Adel.

And we need 2 more good CB's, definitely one with very good pace!

For once Matt i don't agree with you mate. I don't want to get involved in a tactical argument but if we go with a 4-2-3-1- formation then i think Diakite and Diarra would be an incredible defensive midfield pairing. We would have Derry to cover their suspensions/injuries etc etc. I think Ali has the ablity and creativity to play forward in the centre of the midfield attacking 3. To cover him, we would have Barton/Buz or Adel who can/should also play there. This would leave Mackie on RCM with SWP to cover and Adel on LCM with Traore to cover. I would love to see Diarra coming. Very experienced and plenty of Prem knowledge. Would love to see Buz and Barton gone and either a new LCM or attacking CM come in. After that a new LB and CB and we are covered.

If we go 4-4-2, then we will have an incredible bench, which is what is needed for Prem survival.

Like your optimism. I would say 'if' rather than 'until'.

I can't fault your argument if we play 4-2-3-1 but my gut feeling is that it was used through necessity when Cisse was suspended. I'm basing my thoughts on the assumption that MH will revert to his preferred 4-4-2 (and the even more reaching assumption that Cisse won't miss half the games through suspension).

If we do play with a 3 man midfield then we are very light in that department and it suddenly becomes a problem position.

Theres a formation argument and RangerCol is not involved?!

Hughes has only played 442 and 451. None of Faurlin, Diakite or Diarra can play outside the "2" in a 4231.

we dont just need 11 good players, we need 18 good ones and a few backups and Im pretty happy with the squad if he signs apart from CB.

Flyer, IMHO i think that Ali can play in the middle of an attacking three. I would love to see Col (sorry i mean Adel) playing there. Ali has the passing range and the ability to open up a defense with a pass. IMO, Ali is better suited there, than to playing in a "2". Ali is a fine player but he is no DM. He is not powerful enough to play in that position in the modern Prem. Thats just my opinion mate, we are allowed to have different opinions on here.
