Technically, the First World War was started by the Austro-Hungarians reacting to a terrorist attack by Yugoslav Nationalists in Bosnia by invading Serbia.

Also, add Leon Knight to the list. Just seen his youtube video and at the very least he is doing a very good impression of a total twuppet.

90% of the Germans that I've met haven't got a great sense of humour.

True. You could say that about all nationalities.

The Brits/English are renowned for their friendliness.

German humour is extremely funny......to other Germans, the same as English humour is to the English. There are subtle nuances that get lost in translation and you wouldn't expect an Englishman to tell a joke in German very effectively. The Germans are very big on visual and 'toilet' humour whereas the English like wordplay and irony, I guess the person who is the reciever of the joke is the judge of whether it is funny or not.

Forget what they put on TV. The vast majority of "comedy" on our TV is horseshit as well. And don't get me started on standup comedy.

Oh, we've got some good comedy programmes: Miranda, Outnumbered, The Inbetweeners, QI.....

Coincidentally the four or so Germans I've met were all friendly.

Yeah, some good ones, a lot of bad ones. QI is good because it's informative, but I dislike the comedians who appear on it. It's just a competition to see who can shout their "jokes" the loudest. It's my favourite of the panel shows, but that's not saying much.

Graham Linehan has made some great comedy over the years, but then again he is Irish.

Everyone has their own opinions about all things in life but what sort of response would anyone expect with posting the Germans are so much better than the English etc etc.
I cant wait for the season to start so all this garbage is put truly in the bin and we can all get back to one thing we all agree on, Southampton Football Club

    Except we don't, do we?

Example: Guys, what do we think of Steve de Ridder?

If this forum was just a bunch of people agreeing with each other, I wouldn't use it.

Yes, as opposed to mouth arguments :cheesy:

We all have too much time on our hands, that's why we're here.

I have very little time to spend on here as work and my family take up 99% of my time, but I do like to have a quick browse to see what the latest rumours etc are. And yes your right if your saying keyboard arguments are better than mouth arguments.
I think a nice one or two transfers in the next couple of days will get people buzzing again.

Argument stems from debate, and debate is a good thing which people should seek to partake in. Sometimes it gets out of hand unfortunately, but that's life. There's no point getting all riled up about it.

I have always wondered if our love of wordplay is because of the richness of our language. We have many words that almost mean the same as another (often just subtle differences in nuance). As I don't speak another language I don't know if this is true for other languages. Any linguists on here?

It was the opposite knee that stopped Haalands career.

I'm not sure if you're refering to 'off-topic' discussion but personally I like the occasional bit of off-topicness and just chatting about random things. After all, I would hate to go on the general discussions board to be able to talk about something other than football seeing as what that board's like.

You omitted the first part PL
"Everyone has their own opinions about all things in life but what sort of response would anyone expect with posting the Germans are so much better than the English etc etc."

and if you read back through the posts, people were getting a little hot under the collar on a very STILL sensitive subject, the War.
