im not saying this ebcause he is a united player. They are saying Rooney played rubbish and blaming him for not playing good for England. Well they are forgetting is that Rooney is a STRIKER, how can he get chances to score if England's tactis where to defend most of the game? Did England, atleats once in the game gave him a proper chance? Maybe that over head chance but that was half a chance, the ball was going away from him but he done well to get his foot on the ball but went over. England were playing defensive Rooney also had to drop back, even Carroll had to drop back and Welbeck. Last season he scored alot of goals because united were giving him chances. In the England VS Italy he especially in the second half and extra time, England's tactics was to defend more then attack and create chances for strikers. Not even Rooney, did Welbeck and even Carroll had one good chance at goal? You can't expect striker's to score without the team creating chances for them. Give Rooney a break. Hater's say he only cares about scoring goals for united then England, well excuse me thats because United gives him chances to score unlike England in the euru's who didn't even hardly attacked. If he had chances he would of scored, he's a striker, he ain't a mid, england were soo poor attacking wise, Rooney a striker spend more time defending then attacking. But i forgot, he always gets the blame because he plays for United.
Over the two games he had chances which he fluffed and his play outside the box was nowhere near as good as you'd expect. One of the reasons we were so on the back foot was that the ball didn't stick up top.
Sometimes it was. Sometimes he showed far less ability than he normally does to do fairly simple holding of the ball up which he's usually very good at.
Rooney was poor but this was not the reason we were on the Back foot anyone could see that our midfield was not capable of holding onto the ball, nor did we bother to press unless they we literally on the edge of our area. Easy way out is to blame Rooney.
I agree. To place the blame squarely on him is wrong as he was a poor component of a generally faulty machine. Likewise, the OP's belief that to criticise him is wrong is incorrect as he under-performed and so deserves his share of the criticism.
That is a very fare comment, Questions should be asked as to why he can't perform for England. It appears no one can seem to perform for England though. Would have been nice to have Wiltshire in the middle looks like he enjoys playing the simple ball rather than going long everytime.
most of the high balls to him were too high for him, he ain't tall like Carroll to reach it but i admit Rooney had a poor game
im not saying Rooney played good game, Rooney was poor i admit, but its harsh on him when everyone blames him when he ain't the only one, even in world cup 2010, Rooney was horrible in that world cup i admit but so was everyone mostly our defense, our defense got ripped apart by Germany, especially the first and the second one but who again gets the blame? Rooney when other's are at blame too
Probably because, rightly or wrongly, he's considered world-class. Focusing purely on the Italy match you can't really criticise the back five which leaves the midfield, Rooney and Welbeck. Gerrard and Parker were good for an hour or so but their legs gave way chasing shadows. Milner put in a good shift as always and showed the odd bit of flair before being taken off when he probably shouldn't have been. Welbeck, as the advanced forward and inexperienced, deserves little blame given the huge gulf between midfield and attack which leaves Rooney and Young. Rooney is the star player and the link between midfield and attack and played well, well below himself so merits some stick. Young in every match was lightweight and of little effect in defence or attack and, of the eleven starters, has rightfully been given the largest share of the criticism in my view, though some has to go to Hodgson, as much as I like him, for taking Milner off over Young.
Rooney joins a long list of united players, who struggled to bring their Premiership form to major tournaments and Champions League. cantina, robson, pallister, Bruce, ince, Giggs, Hughes, carrick, scholes etc
Scholes was misused most of the time at England, Carrick, he hardly was given a game when he's on form
Very poor considering how many Chelsea players have bottled it when it mattered. John Terry anyone? please log in to view this image
Scholes had some good champions league games but wilted v brazil etc at world cups. Tbf he was played out of position
