With all the controversy and bad news in boxing at the moments these fights made a refreshing change and showed what a great sport boxing is.

I must be in the clear to talk about them now.

Ortiz just blew a huge fight with Alvarez.

Hes a mug. Jim Watt said he tought Ortiz was in the wrong sport and I would agree hes has not got the stomach for a tough fight.

Ortiz did not blow it, Lopez ripped it from him.

He did have a double fracture of his jawbone and ruptured veins causing him to bleed profusely from inside his mouth.

I'm not going to criticise Ortiz for not wanting to continue.

Yeah I only found that out today. I thought he was looking for a way out like he did against Maidana but I would'nt slate him for quitting if he had a broken jaw, some people would have fought on but he is well within his rights to stop fighting. He is a strange bloke though there is always something with him.

Certainly has problems with his temperament, will fight dirty then become very remorseful, loses and seems very happy.

Think Lopez broke his will as well as his jaw though.

I had Ortiz 5 round to 4 up at the time of the stoppage but Lopez was on the up, had Ortiz on the back foot and really pressing the action.

Yes I had Ortiz up by one myslef but you are right Lopez was coming on strong and I think I would have backed him to finish the deal. Lopez looked shocked himslef at the end and he deserves credit for turing the fight on its head as he was getting a bit of a beating early on.

A fracture covers a broad spectrum of diffent injuries. You could fight on with a single partial fracture dependant on the exact area of the mandible. However, a jaw broken in 2 places really sucks ..... trust me I know unfortunately. Once the initial adrenalin runs out, a gentle kiss, eating anything bar soup or touch by a hand bleedin kills , let alone taking a full blown shot !!

both fights were a much needed fillup this weekend though

Think retiring after a broken jaw is probably fair enough. Mind you One of the bravest displays i ever watched was Abrahams against Edison Miranda. I still dont know how Abraham survived the distance let alone Won!!
