It's not just poor supply. And being surrounded by a poor team.

Is it a psychological thing? Ditto Young

Why is it just the United players fault? The entire team couldn't keep hold of the ball in any of the games, we were playing a flat back 8 at times and the defense was still beaten easily by a straight ball over the top numerous times, Italy's poor finishing is the only thing that stopped that game from being won comfortably in normal time.

Without it seemingly being about the United players, our lack of ability going forward was shocking over the torunament and it was Young and Rooney that came into the tournament on the back of a good couple of seasons. They were by far the worst when considering their actual ability.

Milner, Parker, Walcott, Welbeck (still young of course), Carroll et all are not top international class anyway so did what they could. Young and Rooney in particular are for their clubs and went missing.

Gerrard, Hart and the defence were generally OK but about half that side need replacing with real quality.

    Plus...442...really?!?!?

This is what happen when you put 'Mike Bassett' in charge. We have a poor midfield anyway and then we play with one less than most other 'top' sides. Great plan.

Young was rubbish in all 3 games, regardless of his tracking back. Constantly gave the ball away, created no chances for other and never took anyone on. What exactly was the point of him in the team?

The same could be said about most of the squad to be fair, they constantly sat far too deep while still being unable to defend the straight ball in behind the defense, they failed to retain possession at any point throughout the tournament and they offered next to no support to each other in attack. England were lucky to beat Sweden, then scraped a win against an average Ukraine team that dominated most of the game and then England had Italy's terrible finishing to thank for even making it to extra time.

True but I expected more from Young and Rooney.

Generally Gerrard, Terry, Cole and Hart performed well enough and as expected. The likes of Johnson, Milner, Parker etc are fairly average in international terms anyway so did the best they could. Young and Rooney are bloody good players but were arguably the worst on the pitch in the last 2 games. Can't believe how much better Rooney has been in the last 2-3 years for United but how far backwards he has been for England in the last two tournaments (compared to 2004 for instance).

Rooney cannot handle the pressure of tournaments like most of the England boys over the years... Terry and A Cole excepted

I think Rooney would play better with anything better than a below average midfield behind him. Gerrard had a good tournament but he shouldn't be playing center mid in a 442. He should have been pushed out wide in place of young or Milner IMO.

They had to sit deep and play defence. Otherwise they would of got boned 4-1 again.

Wrong, just look at Italy for example, look at how they defended in numbers, and they did so much more effectively than England I might add, but they also moved forward as a team, that is something England were incapable of doing. Considering England had such a defensive set up, the ease at which the Italians repeatedly beat the 8 man back line with a simple ball over the top was shocking.
