That's true and I respect that they were a big influence over a lot of rock bands, but I don't like it how some people think that without the Beatles there'd be no Rock n Roll therefore no Metal.

There might have been a different vibe about early rock n roll, but bands experiment and that's how we have all the different types of rock/metal.

I met Paul McCartney in the old Cavendish Club on Grey Street before the Beatles had really taken off and I had no idea who he was. We were standing rather cramped up at the bar in the Cabaret room and he just got on talking and mentioned how much he liked Geordies,"Good honest people, friendly and easy to get on with" was part of his conversation. I think he might have found it hard to tell the difference between Geordie and Mackem talk, I don't think he likes Mackems now!

3 favourite, or 3 best bands of all time?

for best, you'd need to look at originality, influence, and popularity.
The Beatles set the template for modern western music.
The Beach Boys (particularly Brian Wilson) influence cannot be overlooked either.
I'd follow that up with Queen or maybe Radiohead. Hard to say really.
However, they are not my favourite bands.

I'd say my three favourite artists are Boards of Canada, FSOL and Orbital.
Just through personal preference and impact that music they made on my life

A while since I last logged in but this got my interest.

    1. Beatles ( lmao to them being over-rated. Just listen to the variety and quality of sound and style and words.)
    2. Slade. One of the best ever live bands and Noddy Holder a great rock and rock/ballad singer.
    3. Santana.

Vera Lynn and Max Bygraves. We're getting there at last, throw in Bing Crosby and we're made.

    Age display alert here, but:

    Deep Purple
    Rush

The third spot would really have to be filled by a solo artist and for me it's Chris Rea just edging out Rory Gallagher.

Bit surprised Springsteen hasn't been mentioned a bit more after his gig last week.
