I was entertained to read this morning that despite me and "Sneaky" Pete still being at Elland Road, we don't have the monopoly on deluded old has-beens. Laugh? I nearly shat myself!
If England continue to bore the opposition to death, then they have a chance. It's football of the lowest quality, but if it's effective who cares.
Thank god the real football team won through in the end, it was dire to watch and had Italy not gone through I think the biggest loser would have been football.
Agreed, however, better watching than Spain v France was. Will this go down as the championship with 8 men behind the ball just about at all times?
International football is boring and has been for years now. Club football is far becoming more important to the average fan when compared to international Even footballers, I reckon they would prefer to win the champions' league than the world cup
Big assumption, Josh. Might be true in england, but I suspect not in Scotland. It's a pride thing for us.
Well yea because scottish football is **** and only two teams win the league (one from now on by the looks of it) and can only dream of winning the champions' league whereas in England winning the league is a tough ask and winning the champions' league is an actual possibility
Ken, we weren't that bad. France were dire against Portugal, & Greece were their depressing selves against Germany. This is tournament footy. Doesn't matter how you win, just that you do. Remember guys, no one beat us in any 90 minutes during the competition. Given that we weren't certain to even get out of the group stage & Woy only had a few weeks to get the team together & prepared, not a bad effort I say. Pity they made such an 'ash of the penalties!!!
I would agree with this comment, except to say that I think the tide is turning in Scotland, players are now after the money and if their club says "it's up to you if you want to go with Scotland, but our game is on Saturday and if you are not playing, then there will be no bonus", swings it for them.
Statistics to be fecking disgusted at: The England player with the most passes to their own team mates during the England v Italy game was.........Joe Hart, the fecking goalie...shocking. Italy had more shots on goal last night than England had throughout the tournament. Italy had 18 shots at goal last night and England had 17 throughout the tournament. Bore your way to success....zzzzzzzz
Neither do Spain. You can rabbit on all you like about "the way football should be played" (and I'd not you seem to be letting a bit of anti-Engishness seep through into your comments) but football teams set up to get the best results out of games.
Utter nonsense, Spain play passing and movement football, they come at teams and don't lose the ball, they are technically gifted and comfortable on the ball (England showed that they are simply not able to do any of this during the Euro Champs). When Spain lose the ball, they get it back quickly, they work as a team and know where to be and how to act when things go wrong. Spain attack for most of the game, they defend as a unit and each player is able to defend and attack when required. How often do you see the Spanish keeper kick the ball out, it's usually a throw to one of the defenders to start a move. Spain play football the way it should be, not the get it up and at em style or the get it to the wingers and cross it in style you expect from Scotland, England, Wales, ROI etc. One last thing, I am not anti England, I'm anti English bias in the media and anti **** football, I'm sorry but recently both go hand in hand when discussing the current England team. There are some decent players in that team and yet they are not allowed to play, doesn't make sense.
When was the last time a team other than Celtic or Rangers won the league in Scotland? When was the last time a team other than the Mancs (only chose them as they are the last two winners) won the league in England? I haven't researched this whatsoever but I have a feeling I'm right in assuming that a 3rd english team won the english league more recently than a 3rd scottish team won the scottish league. In Europe teams go through stages of dominating but in England it is far more competitive and only because the scum have been up there for a while doesnt mean other teams haven't beaten them to it. And either way you cannot disagree the Prem is not of a higher quality
But England don't get the best results out of games, they play boring football AND lose. Its not one or the other, most of the time when you play boring football its boring because your being dominated and lose because of it
I did say two or three. The Premiership can be exciting, I don't disagree with that, that doesn't mean it has the best football (far from it) but perhaps because the technical skill isn't with every team, you get some really good games of basic football. I prefer the Spanish or German leagues, simply because I like good quality passing and movement football. The last team (outside of the old firm) to win the Scottish League (now SPL) was Aberdeen in 1984/1985, managed by a wee tit called Alex.
