What are those silly blue tape things some players at the European Championships have down their necks and legs?

It's to help prevent injuries. Players with dodgy hamstrings, groin etc tape them as support for the muscles

An even more important question....just what the fook use are the assistant refs stood next to the goals? If they're in touch with the ref then they're either totally blind or are totally ignored!

This system is still in the trial stages and their duties are tightly restricted. They are there quote:" to ensure that the Laws of the Game are upheld, informing the referee of incidents of any kind that he may otherwise have missed, particularly in key areas of the field like the penalty area and its surroundings, but only informing the referee of their observations through a wireless communication".

So no real decision making powers except whether the ball has crossed the goal line or not and there prior to Video technology being introduced similar to the situation that existed before video technology was introduced into rugby league.

    They've got a stick, FFS!

    That's how important they are.

If they don't do anything, why would they get given a stick?

Plus they sometimes plant one foot on to the pitch, as a show of strength.

****in' ace they are, ****in' ace.

They're a total joke. We have a big problem in football in that the rules of the game allow so much for cheating which is obvious and deliberate like shirt-pulling at set pieces. There were two corners last night were England conceded a free kick for absolutely nothing while Terry and Lescott were both having their shirts pulled off. People will say that kind of decisions doesn't matter but it's ****ing disgusting that the ref is so free to make a decision like that when absolutely nothing happened from an England player. Pretending not to see the shirt-pulling is one thing but fabricating a foul by the attacker just to get out of having to give a penalty is a ****ing joke. It's ridiculous that those decisions will go completely ignored and he will still be free to do that in other big games. People can understand when a tricky dive or offside is missed but when you know the ref has seen exactly what happened but bottles it and gives a defensive free kick is just a ****ing joke. The next 'directive' for refs should be to stamp out all this cheating, make it publicly known that it will happen and when the usual teams try their luck on the first game of the season give a penalty every time and see how long it lasts. At the moment the refs are almost powerless just because of the way the game has evolved to allow it.

Agreed..... FFS, twice John Terry almost had his shirt pulled off him from corners and nothing was done. I thought shirt pulling was a penalty now ? ;) The goal line refs. are for show only and serve no purpose except to make the frog Platini happy. <steam>
